Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while: I own an IKEA Metod kitchen and would like to replace the drawer fronts myself, as having a company do the installation has become quite expensive, and I am reasonably skilled with DIY projects. My specific question is: Is it technically and mechanically possible to replace the drawer fronts or complete drawers of the Metod series on my own without much effort? Are there common pitfalls to watch out for, especially regarding the hinges, drawer slides, or fastenings? I would appreciate any tips or personal experiences.

When readjusting the soft-close mechanism, this usually works via small screws on the rails that allow you to adjust the braking force or catch.Unfortunately, this is not always accurate in general. The Metod series uses a soft-close mechanism that is often integrated inside the rails. Readjusting it is only possible to a limited extent or not at all without removing the mechanism. However, shifting the drawer (horizontally or vertically) is usually possible via adjustment screws on the sides of the fronts. It is worth consulting IKEA’s detailed instructions regarding front adjustment.
I have personally remodeled my Metod kitchen due to similar issues. Changing the drawer fronts is possible but requires time and careful attention. I found it important to move the drawer together with someone else to avoid damage. Additionally, while the assembly instructions at IKEA provide a good guideline, actual installation situations can be tricky – patience and avoiding rushing are essential.
I wonder how important the material quality of the fronts is in this context, especially when it comes to frequent replacement or exchange. Does anyone have experience with whether cheap replacement fronts from third-party manufacturers fit the Metod hardware just as well? Or are there significant differences that cause issues during installation?

Does anyone here have experience with whether cheap replacement fronts from third-party manufacturers fit the Metod hardware just as well? There are actually some differences. Original fronts have standardized drill holes and precise dimensions. Third-party manufacturers don’t always fit exactly; often the hole positions or material thickness are off, which complicates attachment. When replacing, this can lead to a loose fit or misalignment. If you want to be safe, it’s better to use original parts or high-quality reproductions with exact specifications.
Interesting information, thank you! Regarding the topic of adjustment and subsequent alignment of the fronts: Is it generally possible to properly realign them after replacement without much effort? Or should this be done as precisely as possible during the initial installation to avoid issues with drawers that stick or do not close properly? Is there any special tool or aid that is necessary or useful for this?
