KoelmuHello everyone, I recently bought an Ikea Metod kitchen and now I’m wondering how to best protect the cabinet fronts to keep them looking good for a long time and prevent damage to the surface from everyday cleaning products. I’m especially interested in which cleaning and care products are suitable without harming the surface or leaving unpleasant residues. Are there any specific tips or proven methods to optimally protect Metod fronts made of white or glossy materials against scratches, grease, and moisture? I’m also grateful for experiences with homemade remedies versus commercial care products. Thanks in advance for the help!

- For matte fronts, a soft cloth with warm water and a little dish soap is suitable.
- Glossy surfaces should be cleaned gently using a microfiber cloth.
- For protection, sealing with special plastic care products for furniture is advisable, provided they do not leave oily residues.
Home remedies like vinegar are popular but can damage the surface and should therefore be used with caution.

Hey! It’s really important to maintain the Ikea Metod fronts properly to enjoy them for a long time! 😊 I’ve had great results using mild cleaning products specifically designed for kitchen cabinets. The fronts shine much more when you apply a care product after cleaning that protects the surface and hides minor scratches. Just don’t apply too much, or you’ll get streaks!
Exactly, I completely agree! It’s better to stick with proven products for longer-lasting results. Good luck with the maintenance!

I just wanted to add that you should be careful not to use abrasive sponges or cloths.
That’s exactly my advice: use a soft microfiber cloth and mild cleaners! Then, occasionally apply a silicone-free protective spray. This creates a dirt-repellent surface without forming a sticky layer. I’ve tried this at home, and after one year, the fronts still look almost brand new.

Thank you for the tips so far!
Also, regarding cleaning in between: How often do you maintain your surfaces? Especially with glossy finishes, fingerprints and smudges show up quickly.
It would be great if you could also provide a brief guide on what to do and what to avoid!

I understand well that when it comes to new kitchen fronts, you want to be on the safe side. Maybe this thought will help you: Every kitchen has its own individual challenges, such as how often it is used and whether there are young children in the household. Personally, I make sure to wipe down the fronts with a damp cloth after each use to quickly remove coarse dirt and grease.
I can only agree, that’s really annoying! My tip for these surfaces is to use mild soapy solutions instead of alcohol-based cleaners. And patience: Sometimes a slightly damp microfiber cloth and a bit more waiting until the surface is dry helps.
I hope this helps you a bit – in the end, everyone finds their perfect cleaning routine. 🙂
