I haven’t actually forgotten the name of an IKEA product; instead, I’d like to ask the community if there is a suitable IKEA product for my needs:
I am looking for a bench about 2m (6.5 feet) long that also functions like a type of cabinet, with storage space to keep things inside. Specifically, I want to use it for collecting waste paper and empty plastic bottles.
It would be ideal if the bench can be opened from the top with a hinged lid, basically like a “storage bench.”
Does anyone have any ideas which IKEA product might be suitable for this?
Best regards

Sektionschef13 Apr 2015 13:03Thanks for the great tip!
I just have some concerns about the stability. I’m assuming I would use the Kallax shelving unit for this,

but since it doesn’t have a back panel, I think it won’t be very stable from the sides. So, for example, if two heavy people sat on it, it could collapse sideways. However, I could reinforce it on the back with some metal brackets... Often, it’s the back panel that provides the lateral stability for a cabinet.
What do you think about this?

Sektionschef13 Apr 2015 13:13According to this idea, I could also use something like a Trofast.

This is definitely more stable since it has a side panel at both the top and bottom, as well as metal brackets. Two of them placed side by side with a seat cushion on top... it’s just a bit more expensive than the Kallax.

IKEA-Experte13 Apr 2015 13:33You could also use lower Metod cabinets with drawers on Capita legs for this.

Sektionschef13 Apr 2015 14:26Thank you, IKEA expert!
What is your opinion on the stability of the Kallax shelving unit?
The idea to use Metod cabinets is also good, but drawers are not helpful for me.
I want to collect waste paper and plastic bottles with them, so I need either deep baskets or deep pull-outs with side walls (drawers). Are there any baskets (or similar) available for Metod cabinets that can be pulled out?
