Hello everyone, after my recent move, I noticed that the back panel of my IKEA KALLAX shelving unit was damaged during transport. So, I’m wondering: are replacement back panels available for KALLAX units, either directly from IKEA or through third-party suppliers? I’d prefer not to buy an entirely new unit, but just replace the back panel. Has anyone had experience with the availability of spare parts for KALLAX or advice on how to obtain a replacement back panel? Thanks in advance!

IKEA usually does not sell individual parts like back panels separately. The best option is often to contact IKEA directly, but in many cases, you will need to purchase the entire unit again.

It's a pity that IKEA doesn't offer replacement back panels for the KALLAX directly – that would be really convenient! 🙂

Maybe you can find suitable material on classified ads or at flea markets that you can modify. A bit of DIY spirit and you can save your shelf!

Hello puginar, I can understand your situation well, it’s frustrating. Basically, IKEA does not sell back panels as separate parts because these are usually glued firmly to the side panels. If you are reasonably handy, however, you can easily cut and install a back panel yourself from thin MDF board or plywood. This is more cost-effective and faster than buying a new shelf unit.

I would also recommend replacing the back panel yourself. Affordable wood can be found at the hardware store and can be attached easily with acrylic adhesive. IKEA does not offer replacement back panels.

Thanks in advance for the quick replies! @manla, the idea with the MDF board sounds interesting – could you briefly explain which thickness and dimensions are common for the KALLAX? I have the 4x4 shelf unit, if that helps. It would also be helpful to know the best way to attach the back panel without damaging the shelf.
