ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,

Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?

Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

IPTV in the traditional sense refers to receiving regular TV channels over the internet instead of through DVB-C, DVB-T, or DVB-S.
This includes channels like ARD, ZDF, regional broadcasters, and private broadcasters.

In the end, viewing habits determine the installation options: We hardly watch any linear TV (and very little TV in general). When we do, it’s exclusively public broadcasters via catch-up services (private channels are unbearable anyway), plus the kids use YouTube or Netflix. So this might not be an entirely objective opinion, but I still consider satellite/antenna to be the CD of our time: something you can still have, but in a few years people will laugh about it. From my point of view, only digital transmission methods are future-proof. Surely someone might argue, "But what about in times of crisis?" However, if the power is out, it doesn’t really matter. Medium wave radio is practically gone, too. Better is the enemy of good.

Quick question: Is it still the case that the neighbor with satellite TV during the European Championship (next year) shouts “goal” 3 seconds earlier than the neighbor with cable or IPTV?

Well, for me (Sat vs 1&1 TV) it does. It even leans more toward about 10 seconds...

Thank you, with that my decision is made.

Which EM?

The one I mentioned that seems to be taking place next year. Or do you think all sports events will be canceled for the next 50 years?
