Hello,
I have a question. They forgot to install a satellite antenna outlet in one of the rooms. Unfortunately, everything has already been plastered and painted, so it’s a bit late now.
The electrician is offering me a receiver as "compensation," which would allow me to connect to the satellite dish via the electrical wiring. I’m not entirely comfortable with this solution.
Such a receiver can break down (usually just after the warranty expires), and then I would have to buy a new one. Is it very complicated to install a proper outlet afterwards? There is a satellite antenna outlet on the opposite wall in the living room.
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards,
Doris

Well, the satellite cables need to run directly from the dish or from the multiswitch to the receivers... so it doesn't help much if the other connection is nearby...
Unless you switch everything to a single-cable solution, but that usually isn’t the best option either...
It depends on the complexity and what was ordered...
I wouldn’t want to distribute the satellite signal over power cables either.

Hi Doris,
as Mycraft already asked: "What was ordered?"
If you have a clear contract with connections in every room, the electrician is now facing a serious problem.
He will have to reopen everything, lay cables, then replaster and repaint. It’s probably a huge job. If you already live there, I would probably not have it done anymore and instead insist on a very, very significant price reduction.
If you haven’t moved in yet: that’s his problem!
You shouldn’t agree to a makeshift solution like "tapping into another connection." The cable must run all the way to the satellite dish or the multiswitch!
Good luck and best regards,
Andreas

Thank you for your responses. A connection has been ordered. We plan to move in on December 22, and the inspection is scheduled for December 16, 2015. It was marked on his electrical plan as well; I have seen it. I will speak with the house provider (turnkey) tomorrow. What would be a reasonable discount? Thank you, Doris

"No very, very significant price reduction." Ask him how he estimates the cost of a contractual repair and then let him be. Nobody is flawless; not even an electrician ;-)

He should make it simple and do a good job; the inspection has not taken place yet, so he still has time...
When you buy a car, you wouldn’t accept having only three door handles on a four-door car, with one missing on the fourth door... You wouldn’t accept that, even if you were given a set of winter tires with it.
