ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,

Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?

Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

DSL is at least not shared. Depending on the distance, the connection is either consistently good or consistently poor.

I basically have the choice between 6 Mbps DSL (+ LTE hybrid) or cable. I don’t want either.
Where can I find information about Telekom’s network expansion plans?

That is more of a local issue. In well-served areas, downtime should be minimal (unless you have internet via cable).

Absolutely. That makes it even more frustrating when the neighbor has 1 Gbit and we have to make do with a maximum of 18 Mbit because the telecom provider is just a complete mess. This monopolization in Germany is truly awful. Unfortunately, none of the politicians in Berlin seem to understand or care. Thanks to the DigiNetz Act, the telecom’s position has even been strengthened in the past, indirectly squeezing out the competition.

Unfortunately, nowhere. You don’t even get information over the phone because apparently hardly anyone at the telecom knows. You can register with an email address, and then you will be notified if the telecom ever starts closing the coverage gaps.

On the expansion map, you can select the high-speed expansion option, and the planned areas will be shown in blue.
Additionally, you can take a closer look at specific cities and districts.
Try searching for broadband expansion or faster telecom.

Just checked. Unfortunately, no expansion is planned.
