ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,

Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?

Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

Guys. Satellite internet is affordable and very reliable, while our DSL connection goes down for hours several times a year. Keep that in mind. Don’t cut costs in the wrong place.

Lol... No satellite system. A completely absurd idea considering the IPTV and streaming quality in Germany. But for those who absolutely need to save 800€...

:-p nothing beats the old-fashioned satellite dish.

A satellite system is very affordable and highly reliable. There is no need to reconsider, unless you do not watch TV.

I wouldn't buy a satellite dish anymore. We probably watch streaming services about 90% of the time.

However, I only really realized this when the dish got misaligned during the storm around Christmas, and since then only a few channels work. But we only noticed it days later.

I’ll have to get it readjusted now. If you already have it, it should work properly.

That may be true. But having it is still better than needing it, and honestly, who among us didn’t complain about cable fees in addition to the license fees before? It’s the same with services like Entertain, Prime, Netflix, and others.

It’s like having one kidney or one testicle. It works, but it’s inconvenient if it fails.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no supporter of satellite TV. If there was a one-time fee for all satellite programs, I’d be the first not to put a dish on my roof. But paying an extra 20€ per month (about $22) for TV means the satellite system would be paid off within three years.
