ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,

Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?

Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

Nothing works without satellite.

It’s pretty ugly, to be honest... And frankly, I can do without over 250 linear TV channels. I’m already struggling to keep up with Netflix and Prime.

Linear TV also works perfectly well over IPTV...

Yes, that too. Although you have to admit that the quality might not always be great (time delay, occasional buffering due to shared bandwidth at the provider), and it’s not free over that option, right?

I’m looking forward to watching the game tonight in crystal-clear quality via IPTV. Watching it delayed doesn’t bother me. With the windows closed, I won’t hear anything anyway.

Free but not cheaper than cable TV. Depending on the provider, around €10 per month. Full HD on all channels, etc. So basically good quality.
Buffering shouldn’t be a problem, right? It doesn’t happen constantly on Netflix or Prime either.
I would never use Prime. You’d have to sell your soul for that...
Time delay doesn’t bother me. I don’t understand why anyone can’t tolerate a 10-second delay.
