ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,
Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?
Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

In Switzerland, there are threats to block Netflix, YouTube, and similar services
A massive overload of the network is mainly caused by excessive viewing of the latest series on Netflix. Streaming services consume large amounts of mobile data. Such platforms are used even more frequently during crises, when many people cannot leave their homes.
To counter this, the Swiss provider “Swisscom” has already urged its customers to practice “responsible use of telecommunications,” according to the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” (NZZ). Priority is currently given to the needs of business customers who have system-critical functions—that is, those working in key services essential for the country’s infrastructure.
The federal government also has the means to shut down streaming services and is prepared to use them. In a discussion between the government and telecom companies, the public was advised to use streaming services sparingly. The NZZ quotes: “Should serious bottlenecks occur, the government has the possibility to restrict or block non-essential services.”
Satellite systems do not fundamentally have this bandwidth problem.

A satellite system basically does not have this bandwidth problem. Germany basically doesn’t either. The DE-CIX (Deutscher Commercial Internet Exchange) just smiles tiredly at such “loads.” But at the core, I still agree with you.
