Hello everyone,
I have been experiencing an issue for some time now with the drawers of my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet. They are increasingly making loud squeaking noises when opening and closing. The drawers are usually well adjusted and run on the Metod rails with soft-close, so I suspect the problem might be related to lubrication or possibly a misalignment of the runners.
My question is: What are some proven methods to fix or eliminate these squeaking noises in IKEA Metod drawers? Which materials or lubricants work best, and how should I proceed to avoid causing any damage?
I would appreciate any helpful tips or experiences from those who have successfully resolved this issue. It would be great if the solution does not require purchasing new parts.
Thank you in advance!

Most of the time, the squeaking noise comes from dry drawer slides. That is correct. For repair, I recommend the following steps:
- First, completely remove the drawer to inspect the slides.
- Clean any visibly dirty or worn areas, preferably with isopropanol or a mild cleaner.
- Use a dry lubricant. Silicone spray is ideal because it lubricates without attracting dust.
- Alternatively, graphite powder can be used if you want to avoid sprays. Avoid regular oil or grease, as they attract dirt.
It is important to apply the lubricant sparingly and then open and close the drawer fully several times to distribute it evenly. Misalignment of the slides can also cause squeaking noises, so check the adjustment and the attachment of the slides to both the cabinet and the drawer front.

One more tip: If the drawer sticks or rubs, a small adjustment of the guide rails can help – sometimes a screw is slightly loose or the rail is slightly misaligned.

- Inspect the plastic guides and stoppers for wear, as these can be common sources of noise in the Metod system.
- Make sure the metal rails are clean and free of rust. A thorough cleaning can often solve the issue.
- If the problem persists, completely removing the drawer and replacing worn original spare parts can provide a long-term solution, although this is often avoidable.
In summary, intensive cleaning, targeted lubrication, and proper adjustment are the most effective repair methods to eliminate squeaking in Metod drawers.
