I recently installed some Ikea Metod drawers, but despite correct assembly, a few of these drawers keep falling out when I pull them open. My question is: How can I reliably prevent Ikea Metod drawers from coming out of the cabinet? Are there any proven techniques, installation adjustments, or additional parts that can help with this? I am using the Metod soft-close drawer slides, but that doesn’t seem to be enough. I am also curious whether the problem might be caused by incorrect installation of the slides or if there are any special considerations to ensure proper function. Thanks in advance to everyone who shares their experience here!
For safety, here are a few facts: Ikea Metod drawers have so-called extension or locking mechanisms that prevent the drawer from being completely pulled out. If the drawer still falls out, it is usually due to:
- Incorrect assembly or adjustment of the slides
- Damaged or missing locking clips
- Guide elements not fully engaged
First, check the positioning and function of the extension stop. Adjust or replace it if necessary.

I had the same issue once, and for me it was simply because the rails were not installed completely straight – the drawer would tilt and come out when opened. So my advice is to definitely use a spirit level and tighten all screws securely. Then everything works smoothly on its own!
