I noticed the sound mostly occurs when the drawer is fully extended. I would like to know how to specifically prevent this squeaking without having to completely remove the drawers or replace any parts. What proven methods or materials can help reduce the noise, especially regarding the Metod system runners that Ikea uses? I look forward to your tips and experiences!
The squeaking in Ikea Metod drawers usually occurs due to friction on the slides or at contact points where metal meets or moves against metal. To prevent the noise, I recommend: - Checking the slides for dirt and deposits; thorough cleaning can help resolve the issue. - Afterwards, treating the slides with a suitable lubricant, such as dry silicone spray or Teflon spray. Oily lubricants attract dust and can cause increased friction over time. - Verifying that the drawer is properly aligned, as incorrect assembly can contribute to squeaking. It is important not to use oils or greases because they often cause adhesion on plastic parts. This guidance has proven effective in practice.
Hey, great that you mentioned this! I had the same problem and it’s really annoying 😄. Besides cleaning and using silicone spray, I also found that putting small strips of felt or carpet furniture pads on the contact points helps! This not only reduces the squeaking but also makes opening much smoother. Just give it a try – it can really work wonders! You can do it 👍
To prevent squeaking in Ikea Metod drawers, a systematic approach is recommended. First, the drawer slides and rollers should be checked for any dirt or foreign objects, as these are often the cause of noise. Cleaning with a lint-free cloth and a mild cleaning agent ensures the integrity of the components. After drying, the use of a silicone-based lubricant is advisable. This provides even, long-lasting lubrication without attracting dust. It is also important to check the drawer’s installation, as misaligned parts increase friction. Finally, applying thin felt strips to contact surfaces can improve mechanical damping and help reduce noise.

Avoid oils, as they attract dust and make things worse! I also attached felt pads to the inner edges, which provide great insulation and ensure very quiet sliding! Definitely try this—it saves nerves and makes the kitchen much more pleasant 🙂
