Hello everyone, I installed Ikea Metod drawers in my kitchen, but unfortunately, they make an annoying squeaking noise when opening and closing. I noticed the sound mostly occurs when the drawer is fully extended. I would like to know how to specifically prevent this squeaking without having to completely remove the drawers or replace any parts. What proven methods or materials can help reduce the noise, especially regarding the Metod system runners that Ikea uses? I look forward to your tips and experiences!

I have a follow-up question: When using silicone spray, should the drawer be completely removed first, or can it be sprayed while still in the drawer? Is there any difference in terms of the lubricant’s durability or effectiveness depending on the method? I want to avoid the spray staining surrounding furniture parts or the effect wearing off too quickly.

If you use silicone spray, should you completely remove the drawer first, or can you spray it with the drawer in place?Ideally, the drawer should be removed to apply the spray precisely and thoroughly to the drawer slides. This prevents contamination of surrounding surfaces and allows for a more thorough cleaning of the slides. In practice, it is also possible to spray the slides with the drawer still in place at targeted spots. The effectiveness is hardly affected, provided the application is done carefully and any excess spray is wiped off. It is important to let the spray dry completely before using the drawer again to avoid residues sticking or smearing.

I want to avoid the sprays soiling the surrounding furniture parts or the effect wearing off too quickly after some time. That is a valid concern. Apply silicone spray using a fine nozzle and proceed carefully with protective measures. Regular checks are also recommended: lubricants may need to be renewed every 6-12 months depending on the environment. I don’t think a complete rebuild of the drawer is necessary for this.
Great that you’re following up so thoroughly! 😊 One small tip: after spraying and drying, you can also place very thin felt pieces at the connection points! This provides extra protection and also extends the effectiveness of the silicone! Just give it a try—it doesn’t cost much and really makes sense! Good luck with that!! 😄
I can only recommend regularly renewing the silicone spray and equipping the contact points with felt or foam rubber. This combination makes the drawers really whisper-quiet. I have applied this to several IKEA Metod sets and am completely satisfied! So don’t get discouraged, keep at it! 😎
