ELFRANKA457 Aug 2021 09:17Hello everyone, I have a question about cleaning the glass fronts of my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets. Since these glass surfaces are used frequently, grease, fingerprints, and dust quickly accumulate on them. I want to avoid damaging the glass when cleaning, such as scratches or dull spots. I often read that you should not use aggressive cleaners or abrasive cloths. I would be interested to know which gentle but effective methods and products you use to clean your Metod glass fronts. Are there any special tips for removing stubborn dirt without damaging the surface? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Keatondra7 Aug 2021 10:05Hello, I can confirm the approach recommended by barEsperan and would like to add that glass surfaces are particularly sensitive, and abrasive particles in cloths or sponges can quickly cause scratches. Therefore, always use only very soft microfiber cloths and check the cleanliness of the cloths before cleaning.
- For heavier dirt, you can use a mixture of water and a mild glass cleaner, but please use only a small amount and wipe off completely with clear water afterward.
- Always dry with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent water spots.
This way, glass surfaces remain clear and scratch-free. Patience and gentle cleaning are important—avoid rubbing too hard.

The glass fronts are often made of single-pane safety glass or coated glass. This sealed surface is durable but not indestructible. Even microfiber cloths that are dirty and contain tiny abrasive particles can cause micro-scratches, which gradually make the glass appear dull. Therefore, I recommend the following procedure:
- Before actual cleaning, remove coarse dust from the glass front using a soft, dry dust cloth or a soft brush.
- For cleaning, use lukewarm water with a few drops of a pH-neutral dish detergent. Avoid alcohol or ammonia, as these can damage the coating.
- Rinse microfiber cloths thoroughly before use to ensure there are no foreign particles inside.
- Wipe gently in circular motions without applying too much pressure.
- Stubborn stains like grease can be treated with a cloth dampened in a vinegar solution (diluted 1:1 with water). Afterwards, immediately wipe again with clean water to remove any residue.
Question: Are there any particular stains that are especially problematic for you? Sometimes addressing these specifically helps find the perfect method.

Hey, just a quick word of encouragement: The glass fronts from Metod are really great, and with the right care, they stay beautiful forever!
Yes, a little tip: I like to put a drop of dish soap on a damp microfiber cloth and gently rub the spots first. For stubborn dirt, lightly polish again with a glass cleaner—but please use only a small amount and avoid harsh chemicals. Always finish by thoroughly drying with a dry cloth to prevent water spots.
This works perfectly, and my friends are always impressed when my Metod glass fronts are sparkling clean! It’s much quicker than you think—just keep at it 🙂

Hello! I’ll add my two cents as well 😉
I believe cleaning can be enjoyable and relaxing! For glass surfaces, I simply use a good microfiber cloth, lukewarm water, and just a tiny bit of dish soap. If it’s really stubborn, a mixture of water and a few drops of lemon juice works well – it leaves the surface feeling fresh and shiny.
Personally, I’m a bit cautious with vinegar because it might not be suitable for some coatings. It’s best to test it first on an inconspicuous spot! Otherwise, good luck and don’t be too hard on yourselves – the kitchen is meant to be lived in 😊
