Hello dear community,
I have Metod glass fronts in my kitchen, which I would like to clean without leaving streaks. I have noticed that conventional glass cleaners or damp cloths often leave streaks, which looks especially unpleasant on the glossy surfaces. Since I donât want to damage the material of the Metod fronts and want to clean them as efficiently as possible, I am looking for the best method to get the glass fronts clean and streak-free.
Does anyone have proven tips or specific cleaning products that work well for these sensitive fronts? Which tools are best to use? And are there any differences when cleaning clear versus matte glass on Metod fronts?
I look forward to helpful answers, preferably with explanations as to why certain methods work better. Thanks in advance!

Also funny: I used to think the more cleaner, the better â no way! Itâs actually the opposite; less is more. Plus, you should always remove the last drops because they remain visible in sunlight otherwise.
And hereâs a little life hack: After cleaning, if you close the kitchen window and the sun isnât shining directly on the surfaces, it greatly reduces streak formation.

Good morning everyone,
for cleaning the Metod glass fronts, I recommend thorough preparation: first, remove dust (e.g., with a dry duster or dry microfiber cloth) to prevent scratches during wiping.
Then clean with a mild soap solution; never use abrasive cleaners. It is very important not to use overly wet cloths to avoid water marks on the edges.
If streaks remain, polishing again with a lint-free, dry microfiber cloth helps.
Also, regularly changing the cleaning cloths can prevent spreading dirt back onto the surfaces.
This is indeed a very important point, as sunlight makes water spots much more visible.

I would also add that for particularly stubborn stains, isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber cloth can be very effective â but use it sparingly and not too often to avoid damaging the material.
Another tip: Some users swear by glass cleaners with anti-fog or streak-free properties, specifically designed for delicate surfaces. These products can create a protective layer that helps prevent dirt from sticking again.
However, as Genevieve already mentioned, always be sure to follow the manufacturerâs instructions, as Metod is a fairly durable but sensitive material.

It would be sensible to check the manufacturerâs instructions for Metod to ensure that vinegar or other acidic cleaners are not recommended.Correct. In fact, Ikea advises in some care instructions not to use acidic or abrasive products to avoid damaging the surface.
Regarding cleaning agents: For most Metod glass fronts, wiping with a damp cloth and a mild dish soap is sufficient, followed by drying with a clean cloth.
As emphasized several times, drying is important. Moisture should never remain on the surface to prevent streaks.
Iâll summarize what seems to me to be best practice from this discussion:
- Pre-cleaning with a dry cloth to remove dust
- Cleaning solution: lukewarm water with mild dish soap or diluted alcohol (used sparingly)
- Avoid vinegarâor use it very carefully due to potential surface damage
- Use lint-free microfiber cloths (possibly two different ones for cleaning and polishing)
- Follow up with dry wiping/polishing of the glass surfaces
- Avoid direct sunlight during or immediately after cleaning
- Regularly change cloths to prevent scratches
If you like, you can use this as a checklist. In my opinion, this method provides the ultimate streak-free shine.

Great summary by Deandre! Iâd also like to suggest having a bit of fun while cleaning â sometimes the zigzag mopping technique and the right music make half the difference đ.
And honestly: Those who donât stress over special cleaning products but stick to tried-and-true basics end up with perfectly clean surfaces.
A small tip: If streaks remain after polishing, simply wipe again with a slightly damp cloth and then dry immediately. The gentlemanâs technique against streaks!
