Hello everyone, I have Ikea Metod kitchen fronts with glass. I find cleaning these glass fronts a bit challenging because I want to avoid streaks or unnecessary scratches. Could you please give me specific tips on how to clean these Ikea Metod glass fronts gently and effectively? It would be helpful to know which cleaning products are suitable, whether special cloths or techniques should be used, and if there is anything that should definitely be avoided. Thanks in advance for your help!

I simply recommend a microfiber cloth and clear water. For tougher dirt, you can use dish soap, but avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.

Hello Phillip, your question is very good and important for everyone with Ikea Metod glass fronts. Glass fronts are delicate, especially the surface. I would advise you to first remove dust or coarse dirt with a dry microfiber cloth. Then use an absorbent microfiber cloth slightly dampened with warm water mixed with a neutral dish soap. It is important not to clean with too much water to prevent water from seeping into the frames or edges, as this could cause damage. Finally, polish with a dry, clean microfiber cloth to avoid streaks. Avoid aggressive cleaners, alcohol, or abrasive agents, as these can scratch the glass or dull the material. Hope this helps!

It is best to avoid glass cleaners containing alcohol, as they can damage the surfaces. A soft cloth and lukewarm water with mild dish soap are completely sufficient.

Basically, Ikea glass fronts are not high-performance sports equipment, but I think the whole fear of scratches is exaggerated. As long as you don’t use sandpaper or steel wool, nothing will happen. So: don’t overdo it, the glass is more durable than many think. Of course, aggressive cleaning agents are off-limits, but otherwise a little water and soap is perfectly fine.

Additional information: An ideal cleaning procedure would be as follows: - First, wipe off dust or loose dirt with a dry microfiber cloth. - Prepare a bucket with lukewarm water, adding a few drops of mild dish soap. - Dip a soft microfiber cloth into this solution and wring it out well. - Gently clean the glass surface, avoiding circular or too vigorous movements, preferably using straight strokes. - Then take a clean, dry microfiber cloth to dry the surface, preventing water spots or streaks. It is important not to use abrasive sponges or paper towels, as they often cause micro-scratches. Likewise, avoid all-purpose cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol, as they can damage the surface. For tougher stains, you can carefully try an alcohol-based glass cleaner, but not too often or in large amounts; mild soap is preferable. This method keeps the surface clean and shiny for a long time.
