Hello everyone, I’m here because I have a specific question about cleaning the glass fronts of IKEA Metod kitchens. These glass fronts tend to look a bit dull after some time, and I feel that regular glass cleaners are okay but don’t seem to leave the desired long-lasting shine. Maybe this is due to coatings or special materials IKEA uses. So my question is: How can I effectively clean IKEA Metod glass fronts so they stay streak-free, glossy, and as scratch-free as possible? Are there any special cleaning agents, home remedies, or techniques that have proven to be particularly helpful? I would appreciate detailed tips, especially regarding the compatibility of cleaning products or gentle methods. Thanks in advance!

Hello Min38,

Regarding your question: IKEA Metod glass fronts typically consist of glass with a coated surface on the back side. That’s why it’s important to use the right cleaning products to avoid scratches or dull spots.

Basically, I would recommend the following procedure:

- Use a microfiber cloth that removes dust and dirt without scratching.
- Slightly dampen the cloth with warm water or a mild glass cleaner without alcohol.
- Avoid aggressive cleaners, abrasive products, or ammonia-based cleaners, as these can damage the coating.
- For tougher dirt, you can use a very diluted dish soap solution but make sure to wipe it off thoroughly afterward.

Also, be careful not to make the cloth too wet to prevent water spots. Drying with a dry pocket or microfiber cloth afterward ensures the desired shine and streak-free finish.

I hope this helps you!

Hey Min38, I think that’s a really interesting question! 😄 I have the Metod fronts at home and usually clean them with a bit of vinegar mixed in water. A few points: - Vinegar is a great natural cleaner because it leaves glass surfaces streak-free - I always use a clean, soft microfiber cloth for this
- Important: don’t use too much liquid, or you’ll get spots
- Then just polish again with a dry cloth 😎

Give it a try, it works really well and is affordable and eco-friendly! If it’s very greasy, I clean it first with a mild dish soap. Have fun and feel free to share how it goes!

In addition to the tips already mentioned: To ensure that glass fronts are not damaged, cleaning should be done as gently as possible. Even small scratches can cause the surface to appear dull.

I therefore recommend always using a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth and never abrasive sponges or rough cloths. I also make sure not to use any solvents containing alcohol or ammonia, as these are often found in glass cleaners but can damage the coating. Additionally, the fronts should not be flooded with water but rather lightly moistened. The vinegar-water method mentioned by ixlu1 is indeed very suitable and ensures shine without residue.

If you like, I can also provide tips for removing fingerprints or other stubborn stains.

Good morning! I clean my Metod glass fronts simply with regular glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth, done. Important: Use only a small amount of cleaner and always wipe in circular motions.

An important practical tip: If you want a true shine, after cleaning you can wipe again with a dry cotton polishing cloth. This helps prevent water spots on the surfaces and makes the shine last longer.

Additionally, I would recommend performing each cleaning with as little pressure as possible. Sometimes we rely too much on harsh cleaning methods, which can do more harm than good, especially on glass fronts.
