Hello!

I am currently reworking all my kitchen planning again (not ideal when you have until 2017 ) and I am trying out inner drawers behind doors. Now, I’m relying on the planner to get everything right, but I’m wondering where the hinge would be placed in the current setup.

It’s a US 60x60x80.

Because things can fall through and they are not cushioned. Also, I didn’t want a hinged door in front anymore. When I bought the baskets, IKEA didn’t offer any other internal drawers yet.

Hello Nörgli,

lol... you really want everything to be a special case...
I’m already planning to change things again... oops.

About the wire baskets, did you notice they can only hold up to 10 kg (22 lbs)?
The drawers can handle more weight.

But what caught my eye even more is that I see bar stools right next to it...
Can you even open the door without a bar stool being in the way?
Especially since for every small item, you have to do two things – 1. open the door, 2. pull out the drawer.
And then the same for closing. I would find that inconvenient.
For this reason, I decided against doors with inner drawers in my base cabinets everywhere.
I can imagine using a 40 cm (16 inch) drawer at the bottom with a smaller inner drawer inside instead.

Cheers,
Sabine

You have to find ways to pass the time somehow.

If this cabinet is going to be installed (which is still completely uncertain), it would mainly be used for food items, canned goods, and similar products. Regular drawers wouldn’t have practical heights for this purpose. Still, it’s something to consider—replacing the 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet with a door by an 80cm (31 inch) base cabinet with drawers and storing the food elsewhere. I still have a few months for planning.

The bar stools are designed so that they can be pushed under the countertop, allowing the door to open.

True.......
but you know, this way the plan keeps getting better.

I'm also experimenting with all kinds of ideas.
On the other hand, I’ve already received many useful tips about the IKEA kitchen.
That has saved me from quite a few surprises.

(laughs) I’ve even thought about placing a movable kitchen island under the countertop at the transition from the long side to the window side...
that way I could also use the currently empty corner in the tall cabinet.
I would use drawers... also for things like canning supplies, which I only need very rarely.
Or my juicer, which is in the cabinet 99% of the time but very handy for the other 1%.
Or also put the accessories for the food processor in there...
yes, I’m thinking it through.

Bye, Sabine
