ᐅ Ikea Domsjö cabinet located between the dishwasher and the tall cabinet

ActreresHello,
we – Emily, Tim, Anna Lia, and Marc – are having our kitchen delivered from IKEA next week. I have quite a bit of hands-on experience and the necessary tools. However, after browsing your forum, I wanted to ask about something that raised some doubts for me.
I’ll first describe the setup so you know what I mean:
From left to right: 40cm Metod base cabinet with 4 drawers, 80cm Metod base cabinet with 4 drawers, dishwasher, 60cm base cabinet for Domsjö sink, 140cm tall cabinet for steam oven and regular oven.
Unfortunately, the kitchen design forces quite a strict layout. Since I have read several times here that the Domsjö sink should not be installed directly next to a dishwasher (from Electrolux – not IKEA), I’ve made the task a bit more complicated by placing the 60cm Domsjö base cabinet between the dishwasher and the 140cm tall cabinet.
Oops: I’ve now been studying the Domsjö installation manual online for about two days – do I understand correctly that the sink must rest on the countertop? That wouldn’t be a problem; I could cut a piece off the countertop about as thick as the Metod cabinet wall – I assume about 19mm (3/4 inch) – and then attach it to the base cabinet with thin pre-drilled screws, maybe also reinforcing it along the entire length with a perforated stainless steel strip (to avoid rust). Since a part of the countertop must rest on the Domsjö base cabinet, could I do it like that or not? Also, the countertop at that point is 90cm (35 inches) deep and rests behind the dishwasher as well (I really curse the architect who installed a 1.2m (4 ft) long windowsill at 50cm (20 inches) height – in a 2014 new build!).
So now my question:
Could this work with the support surfaces on the left and right?
Would the added piece even be visible between the sink and the tall cabinet, or would it be flush?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Marc

IKEA-Experte29 Aug 2015 14:02Hello, I consider an 18 mm (0.7 inch) wide strip of countertop to be questionable. Such a strip is quite fragile. I am not entirely sure, but I think the sink also rests on it a bit more. It’s best to check this directly with IKEA-Experte.
On the dishwasher side, you could screw a side panel onto the sink cabinet to increase the support surface.
Is it not possible to place the 40 cm (16 inch) base cabinet between the sink and the tall cabinet? With a 90 cm (35 inch) deep countertop, there should be enough space to extend the water connections if needed (assuming the drain is not too high).
