Hello everyone,

I recently fitted my kitchen with Ikea Metod fronts. The combination of plastic and glass fronts looks really stylish, but I want to be sure about how to properly clean and maintain these surfaces without damaging them.

I am especially interested in:
- Which cleaning products are suitable for the plastic fronts and which should be avoided?
- How can the glass fronts be cleaned gently, especially without streaks or smudges?
- Are there any special care tips to preserve the lifespan and appearance of the fronts in the long term?

I have read that aggressive cleaners can be problematic, but I still want to ensure effective cleaning. What are your experiences or recommendations for a gentle yet thorough approach?

Thanks for your advice!

For plastic fronts, it is best to use a mild dish soap with warm water. Avoid abrasive sponges; instead, use a soft cloth. For glass fronts, a simple glass cleaner or vinegar water works well, along with a lint-free cloth for polishing. Avoid aggressive cleaners such as solvents.

Clean plastic fronts with dish soap and warm water – super easy! For glass, simply use vinegar water to achieve streak-free, crystal-clear surfaces. Important: Always use a soft cloth and avoid scrubbing too hard, or the fronts may end up with scratches. 😉 And yes, please kindly keep aggressive cleaners away – they do more damage than good.

For cleaning Ikea Metod plastic and glass fronts, I recommend the following approach:

- Plastic fronts: Dissolve mild dish soap in warm water and clean with a soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratching.
- Glass fronts: Use a neutral pH glass cleaner or a homemade solution of water and about 5% vinegar. Afterwards, polish with a lint-free cotton cloth.

Avoid aggressive or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the surfaces and harm the finish.

For maintenance, it is advisable to clean the fronts regularly to prevent grease or dirt from settling in. For plastic fronts, a silicone-based plastic care product can be used if needed to protect the surface and enhance its shine.

Thank you very much for the overview. I am particularly interested in the recommendation of a silicone-based plastic care product. Are there any limitations regarding its use, such as how often it can be applied or possible residues that might build up over time? Or is it generally not an issue?

Also, regarding the glass fronts – can the vinegar solution be used on matte glass fronts as well, or would you recommend a different cleaning method to avoid affecting the finish?

Silicone-based plastic conditioners should be applied sparingly, and at most every few months. Applying them too often can leave residues that attract dust. For matte glass surfaces, diluted vinegar water is acceptable, but it should be sprayed on lightly and wiped off immediately—no standing time, as this can cause stains.
