Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of securely fixing my Billy shelf on tiled floors. Since the tiles are very smooth and I prefer not to drill holes into them, I am looking for a solution to stabilize and secure the shelf against tipping without damaging the tiles.
The shelf is relatively tall and narrow, which increases the risk of tipping, especially when loaded. As alternatives, I have considered using non-slip mats or attaching the shelf to the wall, but I am unsure if these methods are sufficient on tiled floors or if special fixing techniques are required.
Are there any proven methods or products to safely secure a Billy shelf on tiles without damaging them? Perhaps someone has experience with special adhesive solutions, clamping mechanisms, or similar options?
Thank you very much for your tips and experiences!

Hello!
To securely fix the Billy shelf on tiled floors, it is important to know that tiles themselves are very delicate and should not serve as load-bearing elements. Therefore, my recommendation is to anchor the shelf to the wall, as already mentioned.
If you want your shelf to be stable without drilling holes into the tiles, there are a few alternatives:
1. Non-slip mats: You can cut several thin layers to place under the shelf feet. This reduces slipperiness on the smooth tiles.
2. Double-sided mounting tape: If your shelf is not too heavy, you can use high-quality double-sided tape designed specifically for smooth surfaces like tiles.
3. Rubber furniture stoppers on the floor: These can work against each other and improve stability.
4. For wall attachment, it is best to use anchors suitable for your wall type—for example, concrete or drywall. If you want to drill into the tiled wall, be sure to use a tile drill bit and proceed slowly and carefully.
Summary: A tiled floor is not a stable fixing point; securing the shelf via wall attachments is safer and more durable. Non-slip products or adhesive tape help prevent slipping but do not replace wall mounting.

Hey, it’ll be fine! 🙂 I also have my Billy on tiles, and I can tell you: the anti-slip material really makes a big difference! I stuck small rubber pads under the feet, and the shelf barely wobbles anymore. I also secured it to the wall with a small angle bracket – that provides great stability!
So don’t worry, it works faster than you think and looks great!

Has anyone had experience with such adhesives on tiles?
It would also be interesting to know whether the weight of the fully loaded shelf exceeds the adhesive’s load capacity. The risk of tipping remains an issue even with adhesive solutions.
As a supplement to previous suggestions: Make sure the tiles are completely clean and free of grease before applying anti-slip mats or adhesive tapes. Otherwise, the adhesion will be significantly reduced.
Also, check whether the shelf is placed near the wall or entirely free-standing. Without wall contact, mounting is much more difficult and less secure.
If drilling is an option: Using a tile drill bit at low speed with water cooling will prevent cracks. However, I don’t necessarily understand the desire to do so.
