Hello everyone, I recently bought an Ikea Besta shelving unit and would like to retrofit the existing doors with a soft-close feature, as the standard closing mechanism is quite hard and noisy. My specific questions are: Are there suitable soft-close fittings or dampers that can be easily integrated into the Besta system? How complex is the installation, especially when attaching dampers to the doors and frames? And are there any recommendations for models that fit the Besta price range and don’t appear too bulky? I’m really looking forward to practical advice and experiences – thanks in advance!
Wow, this topic is great! A few months ago, I installed Blum soft-close hinges on my kitchen cabinets and I’m really impressed! You just unscrew the old hinges, screw on the new ones – and the difference is noticeable! No more loud slamming, and the smooth, gradual closing makes the furniture feel much higher quality. Important: Make sure to choose the right hinges based on the door thickness to avoid installation issues. I can definitely recommend this; it’s a fantastic upgrade!

Blum hinges are of very high quality, with sturdy materials and precise adjustment options for closing. One downside might be that the price is somewhat higher compared to generic models, but the durability justifies it. It is important to follow the installation instructions carefully, especially the drill hole positions. For those looking for a more affordable option, soft-close adapters are also available, but as mentioned, the hinges themselves are the more professional solution.

I have some concerns about whether I can simply reuse the old holes. Does anyone know if the Blum soft-close hinges fit exactly on the original holes, or will new holes need to be drilled? Also, I’m interested to know if the soft-close function works just as well on smaller doors (around 40cm x 40cm (16 inches x 16 inches)) or if there are technical limitations. I don’t want to oversize it, as that might overload the mechanism.
