Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod kitchen unit with standard doors without soft-close, and I would like the doors to close softly and quietly – so with a soft-close feature. What options are there to retrofit this function? I heard that there are special dampers that can be attached without having to replace the entire hinges. Are there any specific recommendations or experiences with this? It is also important to me that the installation is as simple as possible and that the appearance of the doors remains unchanged.
Retrofitting soft-close is not complicated. I replaced the hinges entirely with Ikea soft-close versions; they fit perfectly and have been running very quietly for years. The effort: just screwing them in, done. I didn’t want separate dampers because they don’t look as good and often seem cheap.
If you don't want new hinges, there are also so-called "push-to-close" dampers for Metod. These are mounted inside on the side panel and slow down the door when closing. They are less noticeable visually and often can be installed without drilling thanks to adhesive mounting.

I’m a bit cautious about disassembly. Should I, for example, remove the hinges exactly following Ikea’s instructions, or is it better to take them off first to check the hole pattern?
Replacing the hinges requires a bit of skill, as Metod kitchen doors need to be aligned very precisely. Procedure: - Remove the doors - Unscrew the old hinges, keeping the screws safe - Install the new soft-close hinges according to the instructions - Rehang the doors and adjust height, depth, and lateral position.
Important: Do not drill outside the designated holes. The hole positions are standardized, so the new hinges fit without any modifications.

Thank you for the helpful advice so far. One last question: Is the soft-close function on the Ikea Metod hinges achieved through spring force or hydraulic dampers? I ask because I am interested in a particularly quiet and slow closing, and might consider a different manufacturer (e.g., Blum) if needed.
