Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod kitchen countertop and would like to know how to clean it properly without causing discoloration or damage. The surface is matte, and I have heard that some cleaning products or methods can cause staining or long-term damage. Which cleaning agents are best suited for this type of countertop? Are there any specific care or cleaning instructions I should follow to maintain its appearance for a long time? A detailed guide or personal experiences would be very helpful, especially regarding which substances to avoid in general. Thank you in advance!

A proven method is to use a 1:10 dilution of vinegar essence with water to remove light dirt, but use caution as vinegar is mildly acidic. Test on an inconspicuous area first. It is better to apply this mixture only briefly on stubborn lime scale stains and then wipe thoroughly with clean water. As others have mentioned, abrasive cleaners and harsh cleaning agents should be avoided.

That might be okay, but I would definitely not recommend vinegar due to the risk of permanent damage. It’s better to stick with mild soap and water.

To prevent discoloration on IKEA Metod countertops, immediately remove any coarse dirt after each use. Do not use cleaning agents containing bleach or ammonia. For routine cleaning, a damp cloth with a mild detergent is sufficient.

To prevent discoloration, never use harsh cleaners and wipe the surface regularly. Treat stubborn stains with diluted all-purpose cleaner (without bleach) and wipe dry immediately. This is the best way to maintain the surface.

Great question! A quick tip for you: definitely avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals like bleach or denatured alcohol! And if something is burnt on, it’s better to soak it rather than scrape. This way, you’ll stay on the safe side. Good luck!

This is an important point! Additionally, I would like to mention that using metal scouring pads can cause irreversible damage to the surface. For maintenance, the countertop can be dried and polished after cleaning to prevent water spots. Regular gentle cleaning is truly the key to long-lasting durability without discoloration.
