AdisreoHello everyone,
I recently purchased the Metod kitchen cabinet fronts with a glass look from Ikea and am now taking care of them. I’ve noticed that the surfaces seem quite delicate, and I definitely want to avoid causing any scratches. My goal is to clean the glass fronts gently and effectively without using harsh chemicals or abrasive cloths.
Could you please share your experiences on how to properly clean Ikea Metod glass fronts so they come out clean but don’t get scratched? Are there any specific cleaning products or techniques you would recommend?
It’s important to me that the surfaces stay looking good for a long time, and ideally, I would also like to know how to remove stubborn dirt or fingerprints without damaging the glass fronts.
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hello Adisreo,
your question is very well formulated, and I’m happy to help. The IKEA Metod glass fronts are usually made of tempered single-pane safety glass, which is sturdy but can still be scratched if cleaned incorrectly.
My recommendation:
- Use a microfiber cloth that has soft fibers and is absolutely clean (no trapped particles!).
- Slightly dampen the cloth with lukewarm water. If needed, you can add a few drops of a mild dish soap (without additives like abrasives).
- Avoid all abrasive cleaners or scrubbers, as they can microscopically roughen the surface and promote scratches.
For stubborn stains, you can also use a silicone-free glass cleaner. Make sure to test it first in an inconspicuous area. After cleaning, it is best to polish with a dry, clean microfiber cloth.
Fingerprints always come off well for me with a slightly dampened microfiber cloth.
If you feel uncertain, a small test cleaning on a corner or the back side can’t hurt.
I hope this helps you!

Hello Adisreo,
I completely agree with Jeanbar and would like to expand on the topic, as proper care for glass fronts is often underestimated. The Ikea Metod glass fronts are made with high-quality workmanship, but glass is still glass – which means scratches can occur if you’re not careful.
From my experience, the most important factor is how you use the cleaning cloth and what you use on it.
- Microfiber cloths are ideal because they are very soft and don’t press dirt particles into the surface.
- Use lukewarm water or mild cleaners, as Jeanbar described.
A common mistake is applying too much pressure or almost scrubbing; this is counterproductive.
What many don’t know: hard water spots or calcium deposits can be gently removed with a mixture of vinegar essence and water (1:3). However, you should test the vinegar on an inconspicuous area first, as some surfaces may react sensitively. After applying, the surface must be thoroughly wiped with clean water and dried, as vinegar can damage the seal over time.
Another tip is not to spray cleaning liquids directly onto the surface, since the moisture can seep into edges or frames – it’s better to spray the cloth instead.
Do you have particular stains that concern you? Then I can provide more targeted advice!

What many don’t know: Stubborn water spots or limescale deposits can be carefully removed using a mixture of vinegar essence and water (1:3).I have already tried this and at first found it a bit risky, but it actually worked well for me as long as you use it very sparingly. I remember being worried about scratching my old Metod fronts—you put so much care into them!
Another tip I can share: use a dry microfiber cloth daily to remove fingerprints. This prevents the need for frequent wet cleaning and greatly reduces the risk of scratches.
Just knowing others have similar concerns encourages tackling it properly. Thanks for the great tips so far!

Could you please share your experiences on how to properly clean Ikea Metod glass fronts so that they get clean but no scratches occur?I just use a damp microfiber cloth without any cleaner. I wipe over it once, then dry it with a second dry cloth. Avoid using any aggressive agents or abrasive sponges.
