Hello everyone, I recently bought an Ikea Metod kitchen with countertops made of a rather sensitive laminate material. Unfortunately, the surface seems quite prone to stains and scratches, so I’m unsure how to clean the countertops effectively and, most importantly, gently without damaging them or causing the surface to become dull. Could someone please share tips on which cleaning products to use, whether it’s necessary to avoid abrasive cleaners completely, and if there are any special techniques for removing water spots, grease marks, or light buildup? I definitely want to avoid damaging the countertop unnecessarily since it was quite expensive. Thanks in advance for any advice and shared experiences!

Hello Bekelechi, to properly care for your countertops, you should follow the principle of "gentle cleaning before aggressiveness." Laminate surfaces are sensitive to harsh cleaners and abrasive sponges. I recommend:

- Regularly cleaning with a damp microfiber cloth.
- Removing stains immediately, without letting them dry.
- For greasy dirt, a mixture of water and a small amount of dish soap works well.
- Avoid using products with solvents or strong chemicals, as they can damage the protective layer.

If you want to give extra care occasionally, there are special laminate cleaners you can carefully test. Also, remember not to place sharp objects on the countertop to prevent scratches.

Thank you very much for the previous answers; they have been very helpful! I have one more question: some mention using vinegar water or baking soda. Are these home remedies truly safe for the Metod surface, or could they damage the laminate coating? If I use them incorrectly, could that pose a long-term risk to the appearance and durability of the panel?

Vinegar water, diluted as recommended (about 1:3), is generally safe for laminate and is often used to remove greasy stains. However, you should be aware that undiluted vinegar or cleaning too frequently with it can dry out the surface. Baking soda works through its mild abrasive effect but can slightly roughen the surface if rubbed too harshly. So the rule here is: apply gently and not more often or intensively than necessary. If in doubt, always test first in an inconspicuous area.

I completely agree. Mild vinegar water is safe to use, but never undiluted. I would only try baking soda in small amounts and gently with a soft cloth. Personally, I would always choose the gentler method to ensure the protective layer remains intact.

Hello, I just want to add that it is very important to pay attention to drying during cleaning. Even though Metod countertops are quite durable, too much moisture in joints or edges can cause problems over time.

A few tips:
- Always wipe dry with a soft cloth after cleaning.
- Make sure to thoroughly dry edges and seams, especially when using vinegar water or detergent solutions.

This will help extend the lifespan of your countertop and maintain its attractive appearance.

To avoid scratches, never use abrasive sponges or knives directly on the countertop. For stains, warm water and a little dish soap usually work well.
