Hello everyone, I recently installed an IKEA Metod kitchen and am very satisfied with the design and functionality. However, I am looking for an effective cleaning method specifically for the countertops, as they are often heavily used and I want to keep them durable and flawless for as long as possible.

I am particularly interested in:
- Which cleaning products are suitable without damaging or affecting the surface?
- Are there any special techniques or procedures to gently and thoroughly remove stains, such as those from tomato sauce or oil?
- How often should the countertops ideally be cleaned to ensure optimal maintenance?

I have already tried some tips but am unsure whether I am harming the countertops or caring for them correctly. Perhaps someone has experience with these exact IKEA Metod surfaces and can provide detailed advice. Thanks in advance!

Hello Lison70,

I really think your question is very well formulated because it covers environmental impact, material care, and everyday practicality all at once.

IKEA Metod countertops are generally coated with melamine resin, which makes them durable but also sensitive to harsh cleaners. I strongly recommend the following:

- Use only mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents (for example, simple detergent solutions or special wood or plastic cleaners, depending on the type of countertop).
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads, as these can permanently scratch and dull the surface.
- Cleaning should ideally be done with a soft, damp cloth to lift dirt without rubbing too hard.

For stubborn stains like tomato or coffee marks, you can make a paste from baking soda and water, apply it gently, and wipe off after a short time. But please test this first on an inconspicuous spot!

And very important: wipe with a damp cloth only briefly afterward—do not soak the surface, as this might cause the edges to swell.

I’m curious how you currently clean your countertop and what materials the exact model is made of. Some Metod countertops are laminate, others solid wood, which makes a difference in care.

Hello Lison70,

I just want to quickly share my experience. For my IKEA Metod panels, I always use lukewarm water with a little mild dish soap. Only rarely do I get a stain that I then wipe off with a soft microfiber cloth.

I also think it's important not to leave the wet cloth on the surface for too long, as moisture can penetrate, especially at the edges.

For regular cleaning, this is completely sufficient. For tougher stains, sometimes a mild all-purpose cleaner spray helps, but always test it first on an inconspicuous corner!

What has worked well for me: After cleaning with a damp cloth, immediately wipe dry again to avoid any streaks.

Lison70,

Dish soap and warm water, no harsh cleaning agents.

Stubborn stains can be gently wiped off with baking soda paste.

Always dry thoroughly.

Exactly, I agree. Especially avoid sharp chemicals, as they’ll do more harm than good.

And hey, using a nice soft cloth makes the kitchen feel so much more cared for 😊 I always rely on simple household remedies and a bit of patience when cleaning in such cases.

I would also recommend: No abrasive cleaners and no steel wool.

If something is sticky, use warm dishwater, let it soak, and then wipe it off with a cloth.
