Hello everyone, I have a question about the proper cleaning of the surfaces on my IKEA Besta cabinet. Since the coating is quite delicate, I would like to know the best way to clean these surfaces without causing scratches or other damage. I am also interested in the differences between the various surface types (e.g., high-gloss lacquer versus melamine-coated) and which cleaning products should definitely be avoided. Are there any recommended methods or specific products that work well? It is important to me that the surface does not become dull or start to wear down after cleaning. Thanks for your advice!

- Use a microfiber cloth, preferably one designed specifically for delicate furniture.
- Avoid solvents or chemical cleaners; if necessary, a neutral cleaner is sufficient.
- Do not dry dust; instead, lightly dampen the cloth to prevent abrasion on the surface.
Additionally, melamine-coated surfaces have a seal that should not be treated aggressively. High-gloss surfaces are partially polished, making them more demanding to care for.
Finishing with a soft dry cloth is important to prevent water spots. Does water usage play a role for you as well? For example, splashes that need to be removed quickly?

- Mild soap solution (a few drops of dish soap in warm water)
- Wipe with a very soft cloth using gentle pressure
- Then immediately polish with a dry, clean cotton cloth to maintain the shine
A small tip: When fingerprints are annoying, lukewarm water often helps a lot. If they are stubborn, it’s better to clean gently and frequently rather than scrubbing hard. This way, the surface stays in great condition for a long time!

I can only confirm what has been said here so far! High-gloss surfaces especially require patience and gentle care. 💪 Additionally, I sometimes use a special cleaning and care spray for plastic high-gloss surfaces, which I carefully spray on and spread with a microfiber cloth. This often achieves a great deep shine and keeps the surfaces smooth.
Important: Avoid aggressive cleaners or abrasive sponges if you want to keep your BESTA furniture looking good for a long time!
