Hello everyone, I have a question about the proper cleaning of the surfaces on my IKEA Besta cabinet. Since the coating is quite delicate, I would like to know the best way to clean these surfaces without causing scratches or other damage. I am also interested in the differences between the various surface types (e.g., high-gloss lacquer versus melamine-coated) and which cleaning products should definitely be avoided. Are there any recommended methods or specific products that work well? It is important to me that the surface does not become dull or start to wear down after cleaning. Thanks for your advice!

It is best to use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth to gently wipe the surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. For tougher stains, use a mild dish soap solution, wring out thoroughly, and wipe only briefly while damp.

Your question is very reasonable! Especially with IKEA BESTA, there are different surface types that vary in sensitivity. High-gloss lacquer surfaces are more prone to streaks and scratches than melamine-coated or veneered options.

I recommend the following cleaning routine:
- For everyday cleaning, a slightly damp microfiber cloth without pressure is sufficient.
- For grease stains or heavier dirt, use lukewarm water with a drop of pH-neutral dish detergent concentrate, but avoid laundry detergent or ammonia-based cleaners.
- Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can damage the surface coating.
- After cleaning, wipe again with clean water and immediately dry the surface with a dry cloth to prevent water spots.

One more tip: If you have high-gloss surfaces, avoid direct sunlight after cleaning, as it can promote streaking.

Which specific surface do you have exactly? That would help tailor the recommendations even better.

Thank you, FAZAR, for the detailed response! I actually have both types: one is high-gloss white, and the other is a surface with melamine-coated foil in anthracite. I’m particularly concerned about the high-gloss surface because I often notice streaks, even though I’m very careful when cleaning. Maybe you or someone else has a tip on whether high-gloss surfaces can be treated in some special way to keep them looking good for longer?

High-gloss surfaces require especially gentle care. Special polishes designed for plastic or painted surfaces can enhance durability. The following points should be considered:
- The product must be specifically suitable for smooth, glossy surfaces.
- It should be non-abrasive to avoid creating micro-scratches.
- Always buff the surface with a clean microfiber cloth after polishing.

Additionally, I recommend cleaning and maintenance to be done gently and infrequently, as frequent intensive cleaning can gradually roughen the protective layer.

Also, avoid cleaners containing alcohol, ammonia, or solvents, as these can damage the surface coating.

I have had very good experiences with distilled water, especially on high-gloss surfaces. Simply slightly dampen the microfiber cloth, no additional cleaning agents needed. This keeps the surfaces clean and minimizes the risk of scratches or drying out.
