Hello everyone, I have glossy IKEA Metod kitchen fronts with a high-gloss lacquer finish. Now I’m wondering: how can I clean these high-gloss fronts with as few streaks and smudges as possible? I have already tried several cleaning products, but often shadows or streaks remain, which of course detracts from the attractive appearance. I am looking for an effective and at the same time gentle cleaning method that does not damage the lacquer and requires minimal effort. Which cleaning methods or products would you recommend to achieve the best results when caring for these glossy fronts?

That’s definitely a challenge—I’m familiar with it! I have a similar issue because high-gloss surfaces are very delicate. What works for me is using a microfiber cloth that I dampen lightly. Then, I wipe gently and immediately dry with a second, dry microfiber cloth. I hardly ever use cleaning agents, only occasionally a mild dish soap to remove grease. It’s important to be gentle—too much pressure can quickly cause streaks. What kind of streaks are you seeing—more widespread hazy areas or fine lines?

Use a mild dish soap with warm water and a microfiber cloth. Wipe again with a dry cloth to avoid streaks.

For cleaning glossy IKEA Metod fronts, I recommend a systematic approach to avoid streaks:

- First, gently wipe the surface with a dry, clean microfiber cloth to remove dust and coarse dirt.
- Then, lightly dampen a soft cloth with lukewarm water and add a few drops of pH-neutral dish soap.
- Clean the fronts with light pressure using circular motions to avoid damaging the finish or creating streaks.
- Immediately afterwards, polish with a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth.

An important tip: Do not use fabric softener when washing cleaning cloths, as residues can cause streaking on the surface.

Which cleaning agents did you try exactly? Were there any special additives or alcohols? These can significantly affect the results.

Thank you for the detailed advice. So far, I have used a regular all-purpose cleaner spray, but it seems to be too harsh and leaves streaks. Then I tried glass cleaner, which works well against grease but, in my experience, tends to leave streaks quickly. I haven’t tried any specific IKEA recommendations yet because I’m not familiar with their ingredients. I haven’t tested a mild soap solution either, as I was concerned that too much water might damage the finish. That’s why I’m unsure.

The combination of a microfiber cloth and a diluted mild soap solution is actually the best method for high-gloss surfaces.

Important:
- Do not use aggressive cleaners
- Avoid abrasive sponges
- Use a damp, but not wet, cloth

I would add that it can be helpful to use a special polishing cloth for glossy surfaces after cleaning to remove tiny water residues and enhance the finish. Alternatively, a drop of isopropyl alcohol on the cleaning cloth can be used—it evaporates quickly and reduces streaking without damaging the paint. However, please test this first in an inconspicuous area.
