Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Platsa shelving unit and now want to clean it as effectively as possible, especially when dealing with dried stains, grease marks, and dusty surfaces. My question is quite specific: which cleaning methods or products work best for the different surfaces and materials of the Platsa system without damaging or altering the finish? Has anyone had experience with particular cleaners, or are there any tips for efficiently removing stubborn stains? Additionally, I’m curious whether water or something containing alcohol is more suitable, and if harsh cleaning agents should be avoided altogether.

I look forward to your advice and suggestions!

Wow, great topic! IKEA PLATSA is really practical, but I know what you mean: cleaning can be tricky! 😊

I usually use a soft microfiber cloth and lukewarm water with a bit of dish soap. This removes most stains effectively without damaging the material.

Very important: don’t use abrasive sponges, as they leave scratches! If grease stains are stubborn, I find that a drop of vinegar in the water works great. It’s excellent against grease and gentle at the same time. Just rub it in briefly, then let it dry and you’re done!

Feel free to experiment a bit, but always test first in an inconspicuous spot. That way, you can easily keep your PLATSA nice and clean!

I usually clean PLATSA with a damp cloth and mild dish soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners. For stains, a vinegar-water solution can be helpful. I would avoid alcohol, as it may damage the surface.

Hello Temagla,

Your question is very well formulated and shows that you want to take good care of your furniture. The PLATSA system from IKEA usually has veneered wood surfaces or painted fronts, which should be considered during cleaning to avoid damaging the material.

Here are some detailed tips:

- Use warm water with a little mild dish soap and a soft microfiber cloth. This is usually sufficient to remove dust and light dirt.
- For greasy or stubborn stains, a vinegar-water mixture (1 part vinegar, 3 parts water) can help. However, test it first on an inconspicuous area in case the surface is sensitive.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or alcohol-based products, as these can damage the paint or surface.
- Always wipe dry after cleaning to prevent moisture from remaining, which could cause the wood to swell.

If regular household remedies are not enough, you could try special furniture cleaners designed for veneered or painted surfaces that are free of harsh chemicals.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Hey Temagla and all other IKEA PLATSA fans! 😄

Interesting topic, because who wants to ruin their stylish furniture with the wrong cleaning method? Here’s my secret tip for cleaning:

- First, dust off with a soft cloth.
- For stains, mix warm water with a splash of lemon juice and gently wipe with a soft cloth.
- Tip: Don’t let the solution sit too long, or the surface might become dull.

That’s invaluable, because wood furniture does not like damp spots.

And hey, if you ever have something particularly stubborn—like coffee stains or marker marks—a sponge with a bit of toothpaste (non-gel!!) can work wonders. Then wipe everything thoroughly.

Have fun cleaning! Sometimes it’s almost meditative when the result looks so beautiful 😉
