ᐅ How can large KALLAX units be made more stable when freestanding?

KinminHello everyone, I recently bought several KALLAX units from IKEA and wanted to place them freely in the room, not fixed to the wall. However, I noticed that especially larger combinations tend to be a bit wobbly and don’t have the desired stability. My question is: How can large KALLAX units, standing freely, be made more stable without screwing them to the wall? Are there practical tips or accessories that can be used to improve their stability? I’m looking forward to your experiences and ideas!
Hello Kinmin, there are several ways to make large KALLAX units more stable. First, you can secure the units together with appropriate connectors if you place multiple units side by side. Second, attaching anti-slip pads under the feet helps prevent them from sliding. Third, some furniture stores also offer special floor fasteners or even furniture connectors that increase stability. It is important that the load is distributed evenly to prevent the shelving unit from tipping over.
I once had a freestanding KALLAX at home as well. To stabilize it, I stuck small rubber pads under each foot and also reinforced the sides on the inside with metal brackets. This makes the whole thing feel much sturdier, almost like a deluxe furniture store upgrade! 🙂
It also works well when vacuuming around it without everything shaking.

Thanks for the quick responses so far! @reni45, what is the best way to attach these brackets exactly? Just with screws into the back panel? And isn’t that too visible if the modules are placed freely in the room?
@angel, can you tell us more about the connecting pieces? Are these original IKEA parts or universal accessories? How easy is it to connect the modules this way?
