Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for information about accessories for the IKEA KALLAX rolling cabinet. Specifically, I want to find out if there are official or alternative spare parts and accessories available for the KALLAX rolling cabinet, especially wheels, handles, or inserts that could enhance its functionality or be used for repairs. The product pages on IKEA’s website do not always list all the parts, and I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with where to get these accessories or if there are compatible alternatives that fit well and integrate nicely. If anyone also has tips on how to properly install the accessories or what to avoid, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,

Here are some tips from my experience for supplying your KALLAX rolling units with spare parts:

1. Castors/Wheels:
- IKEA sometimes only offers complete rolling units including wheels, but not the wheels separately. Check the wheel dimensions carefully (diameter, attachment).
- Alternative: Furniture castors from specialist retailers, making sure they are rated for 4-5 kg (9-11 lbs) load per wheel.
- It’s best to supplement screws and plastic fittings with replacement screws from IKEA or a hardware store, as the original attachments often have special shapes.

2. Handles:
- IKEA rarely sells handles individually, but there are many universal handles available at hardware stores.
- It’s important to measure the hole spacing from the upper or middle area of the unit.

3. Inserts & Interior Accessories:
- These are seldom available separately; secondhand sources or DIY are usually the only options.

In summary: Accessories are limited at IKEA, so it’s worth looking for products with exact measurements from retailers like Amazon or eBay. Make sure to check compatibility, otherwise installation might be difficult.

Hello Sylvainre,

to assist you more effectively, could you please specify exactly which accessories you are looking for? Casters, handles, or perhaps drawer inserts?

If it concerns casters, please note that KALLAX rolling containers usually have 40 mm (1.6 inches) wheels, often with a metal pin for locking in place. Many replacement casters available on the market have similar dimensions, but the attachment method often varies.

Regarding handles, IKEA itself offers few options; mostly, these are standard handles that can be easily replaced – here, the hole spacing measurements can be crucial.

If you need accessories for repairs: Have you already checked the part numbers? Often, parts are sold out at IKEA but can be found through third-party suppliers.

My recommendation: Share the exact model number of the rolling container, and if possible, the original part numbers – this will help narrow down the search.

Hello everyone!

The topic of accessories for the KALLAX rolling cabinet reminds me of many projects where I first searched for the right part and then realized: it’s either no longer available or can only be found by chance somewhere! 😉

I would say the best advice is really: don’t give up and be open to alternative solutions – for example, casters from office supplies or hardware stores that may not match perfectly in appearance but work great functionally. This way, you can keep the piece of furniture in use for a long time.

Also, for those who enjoy DIY, with a little creativity you can customize or remake many things – there’s plenty of inspiration online! I think it’s great when you can smartly upcycle your furniture like this.

Thank you for asking, that is indeed helpful. My main focus is on the casters, as two of them on my rolling cabinet are a bit loose and it seems the mounting is no longer secure. I would like to get original replacement casters or fully compatible ones. Also, any tips on mounting (tools, tricks) would be greatly appreciated. Handles are secondary for me, but if anyone has information on those as well, I’m happy to read.

For repairing the casters, you should check the mounting: KALLAX rolling cabinets usually use a plastic anchor or a special metal pin as a holder. These mounts wear out over time, which causes the looseness. If original replacement parts are not available, it is recommended to use metal casters with screw mounts.

In terms of tools, you will need a Phillips screwdriver, possibly pliers, and screws that fit the caster mounting.

If the original mounts are broken, you can cut or modify a plastic sleeve from a hardware store. It is important that the caster sits firmly to avoid restricting mobility.

Thanks for the tip, that sounds like a good solution if the original accessories are not available.

I had also considered using a rolling cabinet with a similar construction from the hardware store – although it doesn’t quite match the look of the KALLAX – as long as the wheels can be easily changed. That would at least maintain mobility and is a practical approach if original parts can no longer be obtained.
