Hello everyone, I am planning to integrate my IKEA PAX wardrobe optimally into my very small bedroom and am facing some challenges. The room measures only about 8 square meters (86 square feet), which greatly limits the available space. The question I would like to discuss in detail is: “How can the IKEA PAX wardrobe be placed and configured in such a small bedroom to ensure maximum storage capacity while avoiding a cluttered look and maintaining freedom of movement?” I am particularly interested in tips on selecting wardrobe sizes and depths, using interior organizers, and arranging it in relation to the other furniture. I would be very grateful for creative and practical suggestions from anyone with similar experiences.

I once had a PAX wardrobe with a depth of 35cm (14 inches) and sliding doors, which was brilliant because it didn’t take up much space in the room.I can only confirm that. Sliding doors are usually the best choice for PAX wardrobes in small rooms since they don’t require clearance to open. I also recommend sorting clothes beforehand to keep only regularly used items easily accessible.

Don’t forget interior lighting, for example, LED strips inside the PAX. This helps you find everything quickly and makes the wardrobe feel more open. Here is a practical recommendation as well: LED interior lighting can actually improve how the space is used and prevents items from being left forgotten for too long. This also makes tidying up easier and usage more efficient.
In summary:
- Use a PAX wardrobe with 35cm (14 inches) depth
- Sliding doors to save space
- Interior organization with drawers, shelves, and rails
- LED interior lighting
- Mirrors or light-colored doors
- Precise room measurements
- Consider the wardrobe as a room divider

Check wardrobe as room dividerI found this very important, but I would add the following: If you use the wardrobe as a room divider, make sure it doesn’t block any important light sources. Of course, storage space is significant, but natural daylight is extremely valuable in small bedrooms.
Additionally, you should definitely check if you can make use of the room height. Wardrobes like PAX can be built up to the ceiling, which greatly increases storage without taking up floor space. In very small rooms, utilizing vertical space often brings more benefit than focusing on length or width.
One last tip: If the back of the PAX remains open (e.g., when used as a room divider), you can place small shelves or boxes behind it to make practical use of that space as well.
