Hello everyone,
I am planning to use my Ikea Pax wardrobe as a walk-in closet and wanted to ask: What is the best way to modify or set up the Ikea Pax so that it works effectively as a walk-in closet?
I especially want to know how to arrange the modules optimally, which interior fittings are most practical, and what room layout makes the most sense. Are there any tips on how to use the space efficiently and possibly design the wardrobe frame so that it remains stable without doors or with sliding doors?
My room size is approximately 2.5 x 2 meters (8.2 x 6.6 feet), with a ceiling height of 2.4 m (7.9 feet). I have already purchased some Pax elements but want to avoid the room becoming cluttered or impractical.
I would appreciate any experiences, recommendations, and potential pitfalls!

To summarize: With the planned room size, a U-shaped layout with sufficient passage width is ideal. 60 cm (24 inches) is the minimum, preferably 70 cm (28 inches).
The heater on the wall requires at least 20 cm (8 inches) clearance; open shelves are practical here.
I recommend integrated lighting, for example, LED strips in the shelves or along the sides of the units.
Doors: Sliding doors save space, while open systems make the room feel more spacious, but they do collect more dust.
Stability should be ensured by screwing the units together and fastening them to the wall and ceiling.

Hello,
I built my Pax as a walk-in closet about a year ago – my advice: Always leave a little space around the modules to prevent condensation caused by temperature differences.
I also installed some LED strips and mirrored surfaces, which really help with visibility.
Regarding the heating: I placed a low sideboard there to protect the heater and provide additional storage space.
Sliding doors are great, especially when you don’t have much room. But you need to install them properly; otherwise, they can get stuck later on.

One final note:
If you plan to use the Pax as a walk-in closet without doors, I strongly recommend using dust protection mats or fabric boxes inside. This helps prevent clothes from getting dusty too quickly.
Another good solution is to make the clothing rods height-adjustable, so you can flexibly accommodate seasonal clothing.
Finally, pay attention to the maximum load capacity of the shelves and drawers, especially if you plan to store heavy winter coats or many shoes there.
If you are stacking multiple modules, always follow the instructions carefully, consider the weight distribution, and install additional supports if necessary.
