Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new wardrobe solution from Ikea and have a specific question about the Pax series range: Are there Pax options at Ikea that come with both sliding doors and hinged doors?
My main concern is whether within the Pax range the modules and doors are designed so that you can flexibly combine or exchange sliding doors and hinged doors, or if these door types are generally sold separately in different sets or versions.
How exactly is the range structured at Ikea regarding these door types? Are there any special adjustments needed to fit hinged doors if you originally chose sliding doors?
I’m looking forward to your experiences and detailed information – also welcome are tips on assembly or any particular features or limitations depending on the type of door.

If you want a mix, you would need to build two Pax units standing side by side, with one unit having hinged doors and the other sliding doors – a combination on a single frame is not intended.

Unfortunately, the door mechanism greatly limits this – the product design for sliding doors assumes a continuous frame with sliding rails, which is not compatible with the drill holes of hinged doors.
The door types also differ in appearance, which can look unattractive when mixed. Ikea itself does not offer official combination packages.

Another option, if you definitely want both types of doors, is to have custom doors made by a carpenter or joiner that can be adapted to the Pax frame. This way, you get flexible solutions, although they are more expensive.
However, such mixed configurations are not available as standard.

A brief technical note: When installing sliding doors, the track system is often 1-2 cm (0.4-0.8 inches) thick, which significantly affects the depth of the interior space. Hinged doors do not have this "additional depth," which also impacts storage capacity and appearance.
These structural differences are also a reason why they cannot be combined.
