Hello everyone, I recently bought a Billy bookshelf and noticed that the doors do not close properly. They sometimes get stuck or are misaligned, especially at the top. I suspect the doors need to be readjusted. My question is: How can I correctly readjust the Billy doors if they stick or don’t close flush? Are there any special tricks or tools needed, and how can I ensure the doors stay properly aligned long-term? I look forward to any helpful advice!

Great feedback so far! 🙂 I just wanted to add that small rubber bumpers on the inside of the door can help if the door slightly sticks on the edge or causes noise. I installed them myself back then, and it made closing the door much smoother!

A small addition: If you frequently need to adjust it, the contact material of the door closer or the hinges may be worn out. In that case, replacement is the only solution – Billy replacement hinges are cost-effective. A long-term solution could be preventing material fatigue.

From your reports, it sounds like you can work well with slight adjustments. If you’d like, here is a small workaround for height adjustment: loosen the hinge mounting screws just slightly, lift or lower the door gently until it is in the correct position, and then tighten the screws again. This can sometimes be easier than only turning the adjustment screws.

I wonder if the doors might be affected by climate conditions where you are? Wood panels tend to experience minor warping due to humidity, which can cause sticking—even if everything is perfectly set.

That sounds interesting, thanks! I will give it a try. The rooms are fairly dry, but I will keep an eye on it. If the problem gets worse, I’ll get back in touch. Many thanks to everyone, your tips have really helped me!
