Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of assembling a large Ikea Pax wardrobe entirely on my own. Since I don’t have any helpers available, I am looking for a suitable strategy or tips on how to efficiently and safely put together this wardrobe without assistance. I have a general idea of the instructions, but I am particularly concerned about handling the large side panels and doors. Are there any techniques, well-suited tools, or helpful workflows that can make the process easier? I am especially interested in how to build the wardrobe securely while keeping all components properly aligned without anyone lending a hand. Thanks for your help!

Clamp bars with a width of at least 10cm (4 inches) provide good grip; quick-release models are especially convenient.peovin schrieb:
If the side panels are very heavy, you should lean the panels against the wall and secure them with clamps before attaching the bottom and top panels.I have now ordered clamp bars with a width of 12cm (5 inches) that are quick to open and close. This will definitely make securing them easier without constant adjustments.
Regarding leaning the panels: I plan to first lean the sides against the wall and secure them with clamps. Then I will mount the bottom and top panels in between, right?
What is the best way to ensure perfect alignment of all parts? It’s especially important to me that the cabinet does not wobble or stand unevenly afterward.
Regarding alignment, I recommend the following step-by-step method:
- Start by placing the base slab on a completely level surface.
- Position one side panel vertically against the base slab and secure it with clamps, as previously described.
- Check the vertical alignment of the side panel using a spirit level and adjust the position if necessary.
- Temporarily fasten the side panel lightly so you can still make minor adjustments.
- Place the top plate and connect it to the side panel.
- Now attach the second side wall, again using the spirit level and clamps for accuracy.
- Once everything is properly aligned, tighten the screws firmly.
- Finally, double-check all sides and the entire frame with the spirit level.
These steps minimize the risk of a crooked assembly and ensure stability. Make sure to tighten the screws systematically during installation to avoid any stress.

In addition to assembly: Keep in mind that the Pax wardrobe requires wall brackets for final installation to ensure safety. Carefully measure the position of the drill holes before securing the wardrobe permanently. Without this step, the wardrobe will stand but will not be stable against tipping.
When installing the doors and drawers, pay attention to the included adjustment options to prevent jamming and ensure smooth operation. If you don’t have an assistant, you can use small wedges or support aids to align the doors correctly.

I’ve just ordered quick-release clamps with a 12cm (5 inch) width. Great choice, they really make life easier! If you run into limitations later on, a homemade helper made from wooden wedges and a cord can work wonders—like an improvised third hand. And don’t hesitate to take breaks. Handling a large cabinet alone is a marathon, not a sprint. Make notes along the way about where you’ve installed what; that will help when you continue working.
By the way: When raising the large side panels, feel free to support them with your hip or use the door frames of a room as a leverage point. This will reduce shifting and protect your back.
