Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of securely installing a clothes rail inside the Pax wardrobe from Ikea. Specifically, I want to know the best way to mount the clothes rail so that it can reliably hold heavy clothing without slipping or coming loose over time. So far, I have simply placed the rail into the holes provided on the sides, but that does not seem secure enough to me. Are there any special mounting tips or additional brackets that can be used? Maybe also advice on load capacity and which screws or wall plugs are most suitable? Thank you very much for your help!
The original mounting method for Pax wardrobe rods involves inserting the rod into the prepared side brackets, which provide sufficient stability under normal load. For increased load or longer rods, it is recommended to use a center support bracket for additional reinforcement. This prevents bending and improves overall stability. Screws are usually inserted into the pre-drilled holes in the brackets. When mounting to a wall, it is important to consider the wall type, using appropriate anchors for drywall or similar surfaces.
Thanks already for the initial tips. The idea of a center support sounds reasonable. However, I have another question: The Pax wardrobes come in different depths depending on the model, and the clothes rails can be mounted either with spring clips or the classic hook-in method. Do you know if, for longer rails, the load-bearing capacity can be improved with additional fastenings at the back or front of the wardrobe? Would it be possible to install some kind of clamping mechanism or screw fastener without damaging the furniture structure?
For longer hanging rods in the Pax wardrobe, I recommend using a central support bracket mounted on the back panel. This effectively stabilizes the rod and prevents it from bending. Clamp or screw attachments directly to the rod are usually not intended, as the brackets are designed for hanging. To avoid damage, the existing rear drill holes should be used precisely, and no additional holes should be drilled into the material if possible. If higher loads are expected, a second rod or reinforcement with wooden strips inside the wardrobe can also be used.
