Hello everyone,

I have just started assembling my IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and have a somewhat tricky question: How exactly is the back panel attached on this model?

The manual includes a sketch, but I’m not entirely sure how to secure the back panel firmly so that it fits correctly, doesn’t wobble, and won’t get damaged later.

Do you need special screws for this, or are there hooks that you first fix to the cabinet frame?

Are there any particular tips or tricks to keep in mind when attaching the back panel, such as the order of steps, pressure distribution, or precise alignment?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Minjanita,

just a quick tip: position the back panel gently, like placing a frisbee on the cabinet 🙂

No rush, handle the nails carefully and tap them in slowly—this way everything stays in shape and the Brimnes will appreciate the care!

Also, double-check beforehand that there are no glue or adhesive residues, as this can really affect how well the back panel fits.

Good luck and enjoy the assembly!

Quick update: Yesterday, I installed the back panel following your advice.

I actually drove the nails in at a slight angle, which noticeably improved the hold – the material is now firmly in place and nothing is loose anymore.

The order of installing the corners first and then the sides also proved to be effective.

Only the thin back panel really requires some careful handling when nailing, otherwise there can quickly be pressure marks or small cracks.

Thanks to everyone for the valuable tips and constructive feedback!

Thanks for the update, Minjanita.

The note that the back panel is quite delicate confirms my concerns about a secure attachment.

Maybe for the future: anyone who needs to move the cabinet frequently or rearranges it often should consider alternative mounting methods as well, such as screws with long side brackets or grooves milled in as anchor points for the back panel.

It would be interesting to see if IKEA itself provides any recommendations on this, but so far I haven’t found anything.
