Hello everyone,

I would like to know how secure the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe really is when mounted to a wall. I plan to place this wardrobe in my bedroom, but I definitely want to fix it to the wall to minimize the risk of tipping or falling over. It is important for me to understand whether the included mounting hardware and instructions are sufficient to safely install the wardrobe, especially on different wall materials such as drywall or a solid concrete wall.

Do you have experience with a stable installation of the BRIMNES wardrobe? What additional measures or screws could be used to increase safety if necessary? And are there any safety warnings that should definitely be considered, especially if there are children or pets in the home?

Thanks in advance for your opinions and tips!

The question is very valid and important. In general, when mounting the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe on a wall, you should always consider the following points:

- Adjust screws and anchors according to the wall type;
- For drywall, always use hollow wall anchors suitable for the weight;
- If possible, mount directly into a load-bearing wall or a wall stud;
- Secure the supplied wall bracket at multiple points, not just at the top;
- If in doubt, additionally reinforce with metal strips or angle brackets.

It is also advisable to check the stability again after a few weeks.

For drywall partitions, it is essential to use certified cavity anchors or toggle bolts to ensure load-bearing capacity.

Honestly, I think the whole effort discussion about the BRIMNES is a bit overblown. Sure, it won’t fall over on its own if you mount it properly on the wall. But in a decent apartment with properly plastered concrete or brick walls, it shouldn’t be an issue. If someone is worried, they can just mount a pencil over their chest, but I consider the cabinet solid enough, especially if you don’t constantly stuff it with a ton of weight.

I had the BRIMNES leaning against a drywall for a long time – with the appropriate cavity anchors, it holds really well. The important thing is to tighten the screws securely and not just follow the instructions blindly. Checking after installation never hurts.

I can’t agree with that. Safety regulations for furniture and wall mounting exist for good reasons. Especially in homes with children or pets, a poorly installed cabinet can quickly become a hazard. Therefore:

- Always check the load capacity of the chosen anchors.
- Use more than one fixing point if possible, at different heights.
- Additional brackets provide greater stability.

This is not about being overly cautious, but about properly applying basic principles of mounting technology.

Thank you for the responses so far; they have already helped me understand the topic more clearly. I find the advice about different types of anchors for drywall and concrete walls especially useful. I am still wondering if it really makes sense to add extra brackets or metal strips in addition to the included wall mount, or if the installation according to the instructions is sufficient on a stable wall. Does anyone have long-term experience with this? Also: Are there specific points on the BRIMNES cabinet that are preferred for wall mounting, such as the top rail or more towards the center?

In most cases, the mounting according to the instructions is sufficient, as the manufacturer designs the parts with home use standards in mind. Additional brackets are more of a preventive measure, especially for less stable walls or if the cabinet will be heavily loaded. Long-term experience shows that a properly executed wall mounting is reliably secure. However, if in doubt, extra measures are never a bad idea in my opinion.

Wall mounting is usually done at the upper rear section, as this is where the lever effect is minimal and the weight is transferred effectively to the wall. Additional fixation in the middle or lower part is rarely necessary but can be useful for heavy loads or higher safety requirements.
