Hello everyone, I have been considering buying the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe for some time, mainly because of its storage capacity and design. My main question is quite specific: How stable and durable is this wardrobe really after several years of use, say 5 years or more?

I am asking because I have read that furniture made from particleboard and similar materials often experiences issues with warping, hinges, or shelf supports – especially if they are frequently opened and heavily used. So, I am interested not only in whether it is stable at first, but also how well the construction and materials have held up in households where the wardrobe is used daily.

It would be helpful to know if signs of wear such as wobbling, squeaking noises, or even cracks have appeared, and how attaching it to the wall affects its long-term stability.

I look forward to hearing about personal experiences or any tips on what to watch out for during assembly and use to ensure the longest possible lifespan.

The back panel is essential. Without it, the cabinet is definitely unstable. All the hinges have held up for me so far, but it’s advisable to check them from time to time.

I would like to revisit the topic of the back panel: it is more than just a thin rear surface. It acts like a large diagonal brace and prevents the cabinet from twisting or wobbling.

When assembling, it’s also a good idea to use a rubber mallet and a spirit level to ensure everything is properly aligned. This precise assembly is especially important for furniture made from wood-based panels to ensure durability.

I regularly lubricate my hinges with oil every two years as a preventative measure, so they don’t squeak even after many years. I rarely have furniture that runs so smoothly for such a long time.

If the cabinet is properly assembled, it will last a long time. Occasionally retighten the screws, make sure the back panel is securely fixed, and avoid placing too much weight on the doors to prevent any issues.

Thank you for the valuable advice. In summary, with high-quality installation, wall mounting, and regular checking of the screws, I have a good chance of long-lasting stability despite the material properties.

I will also make sure to secure the back panel especially carefully and keep the load moderate to ensure the cabinet remains as stable as possible.

If anyone has long-term experience with the Brimnes over 7–8 years, I would greatly appreciate additional feedback!
