Sektionschef26 May 2013 20:50Hello
I designed my Faktum kitchen using the online planner. Everything looks good so far. I have also read several assembly manuals and can already imagine well how to assemble the individual units (base cabinets, wall cabinets, etc.). What I currently cannot visualize at all is how to install filler strips or 65x65 corner solutions.
In the picture, I have added a filler strip and a corner solution next to a base cabinet in the planner.
How exactly is the filler strip installed? Is there an assembly manual for this?
When I generate the item list in the online planner, I see a 59.5x70cm (23.4x27.6 inch) side panel listed.
I assume I have to have this cut to the required width myself.
Do I also need edge banding? How is the filler strip screwed on?
What about the corner solution? The planner also only adds a 59.5x70cm (23.4x27.6 inch) side panel for that.
For the toe kick in the corner solution, do I need extra legs? Or do only the base cabinets that meet at the corner each require two legs on the corner side?
Could someone please explain this clearly to me?
Best regards

Sektionschef26 May 2013 21:48I have now found this thread here:

However, not all questions are answered, such as edge banding or corner solutions.

the question about fitting cover strips is already well explained. What I would still like to know is:
Do the side panels bought from Ikea already have edge banding/veneers on the edges, or do you have to buy and iron these on separately?
If I use a cut-to-size side panel as a cover strip, I would need the decorative edge on the side facing the base cabinet. If the Ikea side panel already has veneers on the edges, then I could only make a maximum of two cover strips from one side panel, right?

IKEA-Experte27 May 2013 15:10The top panels are laminated/painted/veneered all around. As far as I know, there is no edge banding except on the plinth. However, I am not entirely sure. You only need edge banding if the filler panel is to align flush with the fronts, not with the carcass. If you want it flush with the fronts, it would also be better to cut up a door, since the top panels are significantly thinner than the fronts.

How are filler strips/corner solutions usually done: flush with the front or with the cabinet carcass?
At first, I would have guessed they are always flush with the fronts. But the online planner adds side panels to the parts list when you insert a filler strip. So that would mean it is flush with the carcass.
I’ll have to check out how this is solved in the showroom kitchens at Ikea.
Cutting up the door won’t work so well with Lindigö fronts because of the relief pattern.

Edit: I have now checked the online planner. It places the filler strips flush with the carcass, which is why it adds side panels to the parts list.

IKEA-Experte27 May 2013 16:05By the way, in your unused corner, I would support the countertop with an adjustable support leg. A wall-mounted cleat serves the same purpose, but I find it more difficult to get it to the exact height.
