ᐅ Ikea BESTA – How to Handle Uneven Alignment of the Front Panels?

KahauHello everyone,
I recently assembled an IKEA Besta cabinet and noticed that the fronts of the doors and drawers do not align evenly. Specifically, the gap sizes are not exactly equal: some door fronts are slightly tilted or slightly offset, which is especially noticeable given the otherwise very simple design.
My question to the community: What are common causes of this issue with Besta systems? How can the fronts be adjusted precisely and permanently to create visually clean lines? Are there any tools or tips that can help with fine tuning? And if anyone has long-term experience: How stable does the alignment remain in everyday use, especially with frequent opening and closing?
I look forward to your tips and advice!

Hi Kahau!
Your description sounds like you’re dealing with the usual minor adjustment issues – this is quite common with BESTA. A bit of patience and a screwdriver go a long way. 😄
- First, always loosen the screws holding the fronts slightly, then carefully make the necessary fine adjustments.
- If the cabinet isn’t standing completely level, this can also cause misaligned fronts – so make sure the entire unit is positioned correctly.
- Sometimes, applying a little oil to the hinges helps them move more smoothly.
Good luck, you’ll get it!

The adjustment options on IKEA BESTA fronts are limited and often insufficient if the underlying construction or installation was not precise.
I recommend first checking the entire installation for levelness and correct alignment, preferably using a spirit level. Irregularities in the cabinet will inevitably affect the fronts.
Additionally, if different hinge models are used, this could cause inconsistencies. Consistency is important here.
A brief guide on how to properly adjust the fronts of the IKEA BESTA system:
1. First, use a spirit level to check if the cabinet is standing perfectly straight. Unevenness is harder to compensate for by adjusting the fronts.
2. The fronts usually have adjustment screws on the hinges, which typically allow the following adjustments:
- Height: to move the front vertically
- Depth: to bring the fronts closer to or further from the cabinet body
- Side-to-side: to adjust the gap spacing
3. Turn the screws very carefully, as only a few millimeters are usually needed to align the fronts perfectly.
4. In cases where the fronts tilt when the door is open, you can also try tightening or loosening the screws directly on the hinges themselves.
5. Check that all hinges are mounted identically – hinges installed differently often cause asymmetrical issues.
6. For persistent sagging, it may help to periodically retighten the screws, as wood and fittings can settle over time.
Using this method, I have been able to perfectly adjust several BESTA fronts. The key is to proceed slowly and step by step.

I would add that the subfloor often plays a role as well. A cabinet rarely stands on a perfectly level surface. Unevenness can cause the frame to be slightly tilted, which in turn can misalign the front panels even if the assembly is correct.
Tip: Use small felt pads or plastic shims under the feet to precisely level the cabinet. Also, carefully check the fasteners between the individual components – if there are small gaps here, they can also cause the front panels to be unevenly aligned.
Have you checked whether the BESTA components are correctly joined?

- Loosen screws on the hinge
- Reposition the front panel
- Tighten screws again
Do not force further adjustments.
