ᐅ Ikea BESTA – How to Handle Uneven Alignment of the Front Panels?

Hello everyone,
I recently assembled an IKEA Besta cabinet and noticed that the fronts of the doors and drawers do not align evenly. Specifically, the gap sizes are not exactly equal: some door fronts are slightly tilted or slightly offset, which is especially noticeable given the otherwise very simple design.
My question to the community: What are common causes of this issue with Besta systems? How can the fronts be adjusted precisely and permanently to create visually clean lines? Are there any tools or tips that can help with fine tuning? And if anyone has long-term experience: How stable does the alignment remain in everyday use, especially with frequent opening and closing?
I look forward to your tips and advice!

Have you checked whether the BESTA elements are properly assembled?Good question – I fastened the elements with screws and secured them with cotter pins in the connection holes. This seemed stable enough to me. The joint between the carcasses is flush. However, I will review the instructions again more carefully to see if there are any specific details in the assembly that might cause misalignment.
What I have already noticed: The hinges have a triple screw setup, one of which is apparently for height adjustment. Over time, this seems to loosen slightly, causing the fronts to shift minimally. Does anyone have tips for this, such as using threadlocker or similar?
Thanks for the initial advice!

Over time, this seems to loosen slightly, causing the front panels to shift minimally. That’s an interesting point. In my opinion, if tightened correctly and installed properly, there should be no permanent movement. If it does occur, it could be due to low-quality screws or material fatigue. Threadlocker can sometimes help, but it’s better to fit the screws precisely and check for thread damage.
Also, after installation, it’s important to retighten all screws, especially after a few days once the wood or materials have settled. In the long run, precise adjustment and careful installation are key.
Today, I rechecked all the screws and specifically tightened the height adjustment screws on the hinges. One screw was indeed not tight enough, which caused the front panel to tilt.
I also measured the gaps between the front panels carefully using a quality tape measure and a square, adjusting them step by step. This significantly improved the overall appearance.
The only downside: for two doors, I had to make several fine adjustments because small shifts appeared after closing. Apparently, the system needs some time to settle.
Thanks for the helpful tips so far!

Apparently, the system needs some time to settle.Exactly, it's like with good shoes! 😉 After some time, they break in, so adjustments after a few days and weeks are normal.
Give the screws and panels some time to settle, and then it will be precise.
Additionally, I recommend lightly oiling all mechanisms and hinges after installing and securing the fronts (a drop of oil, not a grease-based lubricant!). This keeps the movement smooth and minimizes later misalignment or binding of the fronts.
And one more routine: check the screws at least once a year to prevent loosening of the unit over time.
Glad you found the tips helpful!
