I am currently working on planning a new kitchen. The space is very limited, so I want to make the most efficient use of the available area.

In the picture, you can see a dishwasher and a 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet for the sink (SP). Is it possible, for example, to install a Boholmen sink (70cm / 28 inches) as shown, that is, spanning both cabinets? In my opinion, this should work, but I’m asking just to be sure.

Another question: when I try to place the above sink on an 80cm (31.5 inch) base cabinet using the planner, the sink is not centered; instead, it is positioned to the left (or right). This means the basin is centered, but the draining board is off to one side. Is this a planner error or a misunderstanding on my part?

Thanks for taking a look!

That should be possible. In the worst case, the brackets might end up exactly on the edges of the dishwasher. Then you would just need to mill out a bit of the countertop. Do you really need a draining area? Most people who skip it don’t miss it and don’t want one anymore.

That should work.

I agree. The countertop is basically resting freely over the dishwasher or only supported at the front – see picture.

In the worst case, the brackets might be exactly on the edges of the dishwasher.

How? Where?
Then you’d just need to mill out a bit of the countertop.

More likely the edge of the dishwasher or the base cabinet for the sink, right?
Do you really need a drainer area?

That hasn’t been finalized yet! Alternatively, an 80cm (31.5 inch) base cabinet could be used. However, in the planner, the sink doesn’t fit properly. The basin is centered, but the sheet metal overhangs either on the right or left – see picture. Why?

On my machine, the side walls align at the top with those of the adjacent cabinet.
Then you just have to mill out a bit from the countertop.

More likely the edge of the dishwasher or the base cabinet under the sink, right?

You definitely shouldn’t mill anything on the dishwasher. From underneath, you can mill a bit on the countertop so that the bracket is flush with the underside.
Do you really need a draining board?

That has indeed not been decided yet! Alternatively, an 80cm (31.5 inches) base cabinet could be used. In the planner, however, the sink does not sit properly. The basin is centered, but the countertop sheet overhangs either to the right or left – see picture. Why?

I’m guessing it’s either a software bug, a user error (I’ve never used the planner before), or...

Hi,

The fact that the sink basin is not centered on the cabinet underneath is intentional... but it doesn't make much sense. Ikea always designs the basin to be centered on the cabinet, not the entire sink unit. No matter which sink you choose, the basin will always be in the middle. Of course, a 70cm (27.5 inch) sink fits on an 80cm (31.5 inch) base cabinet. You should leave at least 5cm (2 inches) clearance from the wall to have enough material for cutting the countertop opening. This is automatically achieved when the sink is centered.

If you extend the draining board over the dishwasher, that is also not a problem. You install the clips that secure the sink to the countertop yourself. Ideally, place them where the dishwasher’s soft insulation is. This way, nothing has to be specially routed out of the countertop.

Best regards

Thank you very much for your help!

Now the only question is: should I wait for Metod or buy a "mature product" now?
I’m concerned that when the new series comes out, not everything will be fully developed yet.
On the other hand, I don’t like that spare parts for the old product line won’t be available for much longer.
Changes to the existing furniture (e.g., fronts) will probably no longer be possible then 🙁
