Hello everyone,
We moved into our new house at the beginning of July. At the moment, we have our old wardrobe set up in our walk-in closet.
Now I am wondering for the future whether we should get a wardrobe again or go for an open concept.
What are your experiences with dust settling on clothes?
The walk-in closet has a sliding door to the bedroom and a vent connected to our central ventilation system.
Does this help reduce dust buildup, or does it not matter whether there is a door and ventilation?
Best regards

I have seen one of those fully loaded with an open drawer tip over. I would NEVER try that with children around. It’s also stated in every Pax manual. Regardless of the topic, “lightweight” furniture like those from Ikea should “always” be secured. No one thinks of driving without a seatbelt just because it usually goes fine. But if something happens, the consequences can be severe.

Freestanding units must be securely fastened to the floor. Pax and similar systems really need a wall for stability, as the doors are otherwise too heavy relative to the Pax back panel. That's true, maybe my point wasn’t clear enough:

Disadvantages:
- Limited wardrobe options (must be freestanding, back panel)
We’re using a fairly affordable 3m (10 feet) Nolte wardrobe for this purpose. It’s sufficient for the two of us — we’ve sorted through our clothes a lot and rarely buy replacements. It’s rock solid. The Pax back panel still needs to be completed — I guess I’ve gotten a bit lazy.

I don’t understand this “walk-in closet” phenomenon either. I find it very impractical to pick out my clothes in a separate room. I feel the same way. The wardrobe is located directly opposite the bathroom entrance. The room divider function is part of the open floor plan in our house and helps create a cozy sleeping nook within a large room.
A walk-in closet can only be properly implemented in larger houses, or you have to significantly reduce the size of other rooms.
We used to have a large wardrobe as a room divider in the bedroom. It is inconvenient if your partner is still sleeping and you want to get dressed...
Now we have a 35m2 (375 sq ft) walk-in closet accessible from the bedroom, bathroom, and hallway. Jackets, shoes, bags, and so on are stored elsewhere.

I usually think of a walk-in closet as 3-4 meters (10-13 feet) wide and x meters long, with wardrobes on both sides. What does your floor plan look like? Do you have closets with doors?

It’s inconvenient if your partner is still sleeping and you want to get some clothes… In this regard, we have limited comfort since the sleeping area is on the open mezzanine overlooking the living space. We only have two rooms: the entrance utility room and the combined living, kitchen, and sleeping area, plus a separate bathroom and a guest toilet. We don’t need more. This arrangement has proven itself over the past 2 years, and the sleep quality is still good and restful.
