ᐅ Walk-in closet with or without built-in wardrobes

Hello everyone,

We moved into our new house at the beginning of July. At the moment, we have our old wardrobe set up in our walk-in closet.

Now I am wondering for the future whether we should get a wardrobe again or go for an open concept.

What are your experiences with dust settling on clothes?

The walk-in closet has a sliding door to the bedroom and a vent connected to our central ventilation system.

Does this help reduce dust buildup, or does it not matter whether there is a door and ventilation?

Best regards

Ivar Motto: Original instead of orthogonal. You can achieve this by experimenting with cross bracing and height-adjustable feet.

I wouldn’t really expect it in concrete slab construction, but you never know.
On the other hand, your wall might be crooked, and your Ivar just happens to fit perfectly crooked too :p
Anyway, it’s all good as long as you are happy.

As an alternative to a walk-in closet, you can position a wardrobe to act as a room divider. You gain a few crucial centimeters of space since you don’t need a wall. However, if you buy a wardrobe in a standard price range, you will need to cover the back side.

Freestanding wardrobes must be firmly anchored to the floor. Systems like Pax require a wall for stability, as the doors tend to be too heavy compared to the back panel.

I don’t understand this phenomenon of a “walk-in closet” either. I find it completely impractical to pick out my clothes in a separate room. Usually, I get dressed in the bathroom or by the bed.

No. We have several Pax wardrobes, none of which were fastened to a wall or floor. They are heavy enough due to the shelves, drawers, and contents.

I have seen one of these fully loaded with an extended drawer tip over. I would NEVER try that with children around. This is also stated in every Pax instruction manual.
