Hello dear IKEA fans,

I hope you can help me here, as I haven’t been able to get any assistance from the hotline.

I want to buy a Pax sliding door wardrobe, the model with a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in).

According to the assembly instructions, the room should be 240 cm (7 ft 10 in) or taller.

Unfortunately, at the lowest point I only have 238.5 cm (7 ft 10 in) and at the highest just under 240 cm (7 ft 10 in).

The carcass can also be assembled standing up, so in that regard it should be possible. But will the sliding doors still be able to be hung then?? 😕 😕 That’s my big problem!!!!

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello Michael,

At first, I didn’t quite understand the idea of sliding the doors in from the side either.

So… in your wardrobe, you don’t have a full track for the top and bottom but several track sections covering the entire length of the wardrobe.
First, you screw one track into place, then slide both doors sideways onto this track, and only then screw in the next track section.
That way, you don’t need any extra space next to the wardrobe.
I hope that makes sense.

Hello Michael,

I initially also did not understand the concept of sliding the doors sideways.

So... with your wardrobe, you don’t have one continuous rail at the top and bottom, but rather several sections of the rail covering the entire wardrobe length. First, you attach one rail, slide both doors sideways onto that rail, and then attach the next rail. This way, you don’t need extra space next to the wardrobe. I hope that makes sense so far.

Best regards, Monster

That is certainly true—if you have a 3-meter (9 ft 10 in) wardrobe, it is not a problem because you have two 1.5-meter (4 ft 11 in) rails. But if you only have one 1.5-meter (4 ft 11 in) rail, it might get tricky. I’m not sure. I just wanted to prevent everyone from getting too enthusiastic about buying Pax wardrobes without thinking it through first.

Best regards,
Michael

That was exactly the intention!

Thanks again for addressing this here.

I'm glad that this construction method is now possible for many.

Ah, so it is possible after all. The friendly staff at Ikea advised me against the 240cm (94 inches) tall wardrobe. Our room height is 236cm (93 inches). Sliding it in from the side only works if we first rotate the wardrobe out of its niche, as the wall next to it slopes away at about 30°. Is that possible? Or is it not feasible to rotate such a large cabinet once it is standing?

How can the stoppers on the left and right sides of the track be removed? They must be taken out first so the door can be slid in from the side, and then put back in afterwards, right?

So, I have carpet in the bedroom, and that huge piece definitely does not slide around. I was at a swapping event last month. I exchanged so many new clothes that I will soon need to extend the house. Unfortunately, I can’t say how to remove the stoppers either. I didn’t assemble my wardrobe myself back then 🙂
